The female Johnny Cash..?
UK song-writing sensation, CALLAGHAN, brings Nashville to the streets of London
Country, Folk, Celtic, Acoustic - All words that could describe Callaghan’s style.
The influences from growing up on traditional Irish music as well as artists such as Buddy Holly, Johnny Cash and James Taylor are also all immediately evident in her songs.
With her skills on piano and guitar and an impressive ability to connect with a live audience, Callaghan seems to have found a winning formula. Callaghan’s powerful but soothing vocals have gained her over 45,000 MySpace fans, worldwide music sales, appearances on TV, airtime on BBC Radio and tours in the UK and US.
Born Georgina Callaghan in 1983 in Boston, Lincolnshire, Callaghan’s musical beginnings started at the age of four, being classically trained on the flute.
By her teenage years Callaghan’s love of performing had moved to singing and songwriting. It was Callaghan’s first song ‘In Your Arms Again’, written when she was just 14, that won her a place on BBC 1’s ‘Get Your Act Together’ – a show for up-and-coming singer-songwriters, hosted by Ronan Keating.
Since moving to London at 18, Callaghan has been performing her songs in front of audiences of up to 2,000 at venues including Shepherd’s Bush Empire and The National Theatre.
Success from previous EPs – one of which, Nothing You Say, received airplay on BBC Radio 2 – motivated Callaghan to self-release the single Look Around.
Callaghan’s recent chart campaign captured the imagination of press and public in the South Lincolnshire area from where she hails – with newspaper and radio interviews including being playlisted on BBC Birmingham.
