In 2009, women’s hair trends will play to the extremes. They will be extremely short, extremely girly, extremely long or extremely chic.
Very precisely cut bangs and hair with a ton of sheen creates a strikingly beautiful, yet fun look.
Hair styles and cuts will be very architectural and precisely cut. Cute, swingy bobs are giving way to much shorter, angled cuts with very clean lines. The look this spring will be reminiscent of 1930s bobs, but slightly shorter, more angular and, for the most daring, asymmetrical.
As far as color goes, steer clear from obvious highlights and lowlights. Low-contrast dimensional color is in.
“Think of the colors in a mink coat. It’s very similar to that,” says Tonya Barkdoll, Artistic Director at the Calla Lily Salon and Day Spa.
The fur in mink has several different colors, but blended together they create dimension and shine.
The key to achieving this look is to highlight and lowlight with close color variations, all within the same palette. Fortunately, with Redken colors the Calla Lily can create multi-tonal, dimensional colors with cool and sophisticated tones.

Okay, so you have head-turning hair…now it’s time to finish the look with a polished face. Rihanna has spring 2009's looks down. From the short angular hair to smoldering eyes and ultra-bright pink lips, she pulls off trendy without looking overdone.
This spring’s faces are taking a page from two eras—1930s glam and 1980s rock. Skin should not look overly tan; instead keep it light and fresh. Mineral powders are good for full coverage without looking or feeling ridiculously heavy.
Taking a cue from the ‘30s, accentuate the cheekbones with a rosy blush, but air on the side of caution to creating a line. You still want cheek color to remain soft and feminine.
The two most striking features of Spring 2009 make up trends are eyes and lips.
Very smoky, dark shadow with black, grey or a deep plum eyeliner lining the upper and lower lids and several coats of good coverage mascara create a very mysterious, very seductive, very ‘80s-inspired look. The key to eyes this spring is to use very little color and stick mostly to neutral colors like black, grey or even a deep dark chocolate brown.
