Yes, it is my real name (family name) and I really am 17... to answer those most-asked questions. I am a 5th generation Texan, raised in MS, & reside in Nashville. ABOUT ME: I got my singing/dancing legs on and toured with 35 yr veteran, Vince Vance and the Valiants (All I Want For Xmas is You) when I was 12 as baby "Vanna Valiantette" I have been writing music/lyrics since 13...and my dated songs above were either co-produced by me in a home studio,or like Will It Go Round In Circles by our beloved Billy Preston, done in my bathroom "studio" w/garage band...lol. So listen "gently." I am working on better material now. Thru an incredible sychronistic domino effect I started working with the Bramletts, then began touring with legendary Grammy winner (Sam and Dave) Sam Moore at 14. I started with SXSW in Austin, then the New Orleans Jazz Festival in 2006. At 15, I was lucky enough to sing on Conan O'Brian, Craig Ferguson (w/Travis Tritt/Sam) ,Emeril, David Letterman (w/Wynona&Sam) and with Sting and Sam on the Charlie Rose show, as well as being featured on the Today Show (see video). After performing in LA at a benefit honoring Randy Jackson, I sang BGV on Randy's latest production. From there, Sam and I were featured at Nashville's Schermmerhorn Center, honoring BMI's Frances Preston,along with Sheryl Crow, Steve Cropper and other legends. After doing the MOBO Awards in London where Sam received the Lifetime Achievement Award, I went back two more times at 16, the last being my Led Zepplin 2007 Reunion Aftershow w/Papa Sam, Paul Rodgers (Bad Company, Queen), Bill Wyman (Rollingstones), and other greats. (video here) I was again honored to perform alongside some incredible artists for the great Muhammed Ali in 2008 at the Celebrity Fightnight Benefit (see photo slider). In March 2008, I performed at the Ryman Auditorium alongside Wynonna, JoDee Messina, Travis Tritt and of course, Sam for the 2008 Lili Claire Foundation. Following some fun solo concerts in MS (see the videos here), I finished the summer up with Sam and the band alongside George Benson, Sly and the Family Stone, FourPlay, and other amazing musicians at the 2008 Tokyo Jazz Festival in Japan. From there we performed again at the Blue Note in Tokyo. This was my third and favorite trip to Japan w/Sam Moore.
At 17, on Jan 20, 2009 I was honored to be a part of American history and President Barack Obama's inauguration, as I sang with legends Sting, Sam, and Elvis Costello at the Creative Coalition Ball (see videos here) and even got to perform my duet with Sam! I am also honored to sing this year at the 2009 Rock N Roll Hall of Fame, as well as another performance in March in DC.
In addition to continuing to write and co-write music, I am beginning work on my 2nd childrens book, Rowdy Meets the Big Apple. I wrote a childrens book at 12. It is about my actual horse, Rowdy who is my age & lives in TX. I wrote and illustrated it & it is for sale here on the blog link or at www.lulu.com (search Rowdy's Lesson).
