About me:

Calles y Sueños, a compilation of Garcia Lorca’s poems, relates to our inner-city experience. Calles y Sueños was formed by several Latino artists as a creative response to the once prevalent artistic void that existed in the Latino arts community in the early 90’s. We continue to nurture change and freedom on a multitude of levels. Culturally, we intend to cultivate our Latino roots and plant new seeds for our ever-evolving identity to continue to germinate. We understand we are a transplanted people still growing in a jungle of alienation, racism and economic hardship. We are not fatalists, pessimists, nor are we disillusioned. We are determined to annihilate artistic inertia and accepted ideas of “high art”, as well as accepted ideas of “popular poster art”. We want to create from the spiritual spring that is our vision. Our vision is free of ideological narrowness, yet we do not profess or practice any form of rationalized liberalism. We support our brothers and sisters who have sacrificed their lives for freedom and self-determination. We forge a new art free from categorical post-modernist trappings. Calles y Sueños is a tapestry of realities, none of which proclaims itself to be absolute truth, none which lives in absolute relativity. There is no paradox here - only the artist and his/ her work. We are multi-stylistic artist walking along the path of Latin American art. We realize that we live in the “Great Monster,’ hence we walk the streets and dream, our feet in unison with fire in our hearts, crystal minds, agile hands and lucid eyes. We know that our moment is brief, perhaps only the falling of a leaf. Yet we want to contribute historically, whether we are recognized or not by the established order, to our own artistic destiny. We will cast hot stones into the great unknown. Originally written by Miguel Jiménez in the early 1990’s by one of the founding members. Revised by Marco September 7 2007.

  • Television

Currently we are too busy in Juchitan to be watching television. Below is a brief description about our latest project. Atte. Jose David Coordinador 'Calles Y Sueños' Juchitán Oaxaca.
