About me:

What Would You Do If You Could Help Cure Cancer?

What if you could help control the spread of Malaria?

Many people have the opinion that one person can't make a difference. While that may be true, what about when many people band together to help out the scientific community? Well, using Distributed Computing YOU CAN make a difference.

With Distributed Computing via the BOINC ( Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing ) program you can help the scientific community find anything from a solution to a mathematics problem, to a cure for some cancers, to intelligent life on another planet.

For those of you who don't know what Distributed Computing is, allow me to take a few lines to try to explain.

Let's say that you have a HUGE amount of work to do, but you know that your computer simply doesn't have enough power or memory to process all the information needed to do the work. You would think that you were stuck, right??

Now what if I told you that you could take all that work, split it up into smaller packets, and send some of them to your friend's computer? What if I told you that you could split it up even more and not only send some of it to your friend, but to you neighbor? What about splitting it up enough to send it out to every computer IN YOUR CITY? Think about all the computing power you would have available then.

That, in essence, is what Distributed Computing is all about. Taking information that is far too much for even a super computer to process, and spreading it out to 100's or 1000's of people to create a monstrous computing system.

Scientists from all over the world have created projects based on the BOINC system to help with some of the problems facing mankind. In doing so, they have given each of us an opportunity to help them in their chosen cause. Whether it be folding proteins, or mapping the cosmos, or looking for E.T.

How many times have you seen your computer just sitting there playing your nice pretty screensaver? I bet you didn't know that while your computer is just sitting there, you could be helping mankind.

The BOINC program uses your computers idle time ( or any amount of processor time you choose ) to do calculations for any project you choose. It runs in the background while you are using your computer, and goes to full running when your computer is just sitting there. All you have to do is download the BOINC program, attach to your chosen project(s) and let it run. The program does all the work....and you get the satisfaction of knowing that you are doing your part to help mankind.

Calm Chaos is a BOINC based team that was created with the basic idea that everyone could do their part, while still remaining an individual. We are set up on around 50 of the BOINC based projects, and a couple that aren't associated with BOINC.

We pride ourselves on our individuality, and invite you to join us and see what DC is all about.

Welcome!

We are Calm Chaos! We strive not to accept what is served us so forcefully and repeatedly to cover over real truth. It is in knowing there are entities that do deceive to further their own agendas that the truth resides. The worst of the agendas being the propagation and maintenance of their own power over the masses. OVER YOU. Knowledge is power even to the most innocent among us. The trick is to resist the machine that would force us to accept false conclusions to the realities of this existence. For many, the propaganda that exists cannot fully explain the world around us, thus we hold out for more. We hold out for the truth. So is this life a lie? Or is it the final expression of the balance that exists within the cosmos? What is this balance? Beware of those who say they have all the answers, for they are part of the chaos of this world. Their arrogance serves only to add to the confusion. Humanity as yet, is not all knowing. Let us continue to test all such truth against the litmus of our growing consciousness.

The people gathering on this forum are adamantly questioning broadly accepted realities and discussing known and..or suspected conspiracies and current world views. We are not a bunch of conspiracy theorists nor are we a group who will just close our eyes and swallow what we have been told simply because it is the expectation. The human consciousness, an ultimate truism, must be used to further the species as a whole, rather than just a select few. We strive not to be sheep being herded about the field ultimately to be devoured by those who would wish to orchestrate human evolution and those who would sell short our ultimate human potential just to hold control now. How about you?

The very nature of human beings is to be curious. Without this curiosity, few of the things that we take for granted today would be reality. Many inventions would have been seriously delayed if not missed altogether had it not been for simple human curiosity. If Einstein had not been curious enough to actually think about things, we would know far less than we do today. Many out there would prefer to see our curiosity stifled and will do whatever they can to keep feeding us what they want us to believe. We try to look around the corners of ideas. If you don't look around the corner you'll never know what there is to be seen. It just may be the truth!

One expression of our desire to learn and contribute more to humankind is an effort worth exploring for yourself. It is called BOINC (Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing) . We have no desire to elevate any project above the need of each and every person to search and answer his own questions in their own way. Nevertheless, some members of this forum belong to a team aptly named Calm Chaos who run BOINC on their computers for the benefit of humanity and for some friendly competition and camaraderie. The benefit of doing BOINC projects is an exercise in self-actualization. The giving back without the expectation of receiving in return. We invite you to explore this activity for yourself. The potential benefits to society are just too great not to.

We at Calm Chaos invite you to join us. You too can help to find the Calm amidst the Chaos.
