About me: Students have been meeting and organizing at Cal Poly Pomona for over 25 years! Students originally chartered as the Gay Student Union, and became more inclusive over the years. Formerly known as GALA (Gay and Lesbian Alliance), then CAP (the Collegiate Alliance of Pride), QSAFE has something for everyone! Look forward to meeting a new breed of friends and going places with the group. QSAFE is committed to making an environment comfortable for all. All events and activities are planned with age, gender, and sexuality issues in mind. QSAFE is open to all students regardless of sexual orientation, hence the renaming of the group. This group is here to work for you. If you don't think that the group has what you want, let us know, get involved... this group is for students by students.
The group is active in discussing and taking stands on issues such as the systematic discrimination of gay men by the American Red Cross Blood Bank, ROTC, and local organizations and businesses. QSAFE attends rallies for gay and lesbian rights, such as the "Fight the Right March" in San Francisco, and builds coalitions with other community and campus groups to fight for social justice. QSAFE members are also offered opportunities as mentors to incoming students and other queer youth.
Besides taking stands on issues that affect the gay, lesbian, and bisexual community, members meet for social outings, whether for a BBQ in Huntington Beach, coffee/bookstore meetings, movie screenings of hard to find stuff, such as Tales of the City, or just hanging out together in The Pride Center for a chat with friends or lunch. QSAFE is open to all who have an open mind and want to meet some great people who accept you for all your uniqueness. Celebrate the diversity of our college campus and have lots of fun with students who know how to throw a party!
