Calum Alex Macmillan was born and brought up on the Isle of Lewis. From an early age he was surrounded my Gaelic song and traditional music, his father Seonaidh being the lead singer in the Gaelic folk group 'The Lochies'. At the age of 18 he won the Mod Gold Medal and he also went on to win the Traditional Gold Medal and the prestigious 'Seann Nós' competition at the Pan Celtic Festival. Having completed his studies at Aberdeen University he is now employed as a Gaelic Development Officer with Fèisean nan Gàidheal.
2005 saw the release of his highly successful debut album, 'Tàladh nan Cuantan'. More recently, Calum Alex has joined the groundbreaking group Dàimh, whose latest album 'Crossing Point' was received with critical acclaim.
After you've finished here, you may like to hear this folk-carol on myspace... Poem 230 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse (see my blog for details): CHRISTMAS SUNG SIMPLY
As gospellers have said, Beneath signalling skies, On land dusty to tread, A trough in a stable Was the strawy first-bed Of a divine baby - The forgiving Godhead.
A season for new hope - There then and here now; The yuletide of goodwill - There then and here now.
In respect of this chance, Beneath bright or dark skies, Faith's the star that we glance Attending Christ's churches And trying to enhance, With singing and ritual, Our God-loving stance.

How's it going? Hey i just left a message on Daimh's My Space wondering if yourself and Daimh would consider coming over to the College of St. Scholastica, where i'm studying, here in Duluth, Minnesota, for a cultural performance and workshop next year February 2010? You'll see the full comment and more details i left on Daimh's My Space. I put your name forward to the college board and they have highly regarded the idea and would seriously love it if a Scottish band, especially one like Daimh, would come to the college. It's for Culture Week next year. It's pretty massive here in Duluth. Do you think yourself and the other guys would be interested? Hope to hear from you soon and hope your doing well too bud!!
