Nicolás Camacho Aljure was born and raised in Colombia, South America. He started playing drums at the age of 14 and was a music major at 18. At 21, he moved to Los Angeles wanting to pursue a career as a professional drummer but in the fall of 2000, while attending a 14-hour, outdoor rave in Indio, California he suddenly realized what he wanted to do with his life: Become a DJ.
After only one year of practice with some old Technics 1200s a friend lent him, he started gaining local recognition playing at small clubs, local raves, and underground parties in Southern California, and it was then when he met who would become his good friend and partner behind the decks. Roberto, a.k.a Vass.
Roberto Urbina, a.k.a Vass, started out in music long before he decided to adopt the turntables as his instrument of choice. As a kid he was always fascinated by the hypnotic quality of beats and music itself. It was at the age of 14, that this Colombian decided to study the art of music. Roberto was driven to study the bass guitar because he had fallen in love with the visceral raw characteristic that it sound possessed. But it wasn’t until later in his adolescence, when he moved to Buenos Aires, Argentina, that electronic music would seduce, a then 18 year old, and change his life forever.
Seeking a higher education in music Roberto moved to the city of Los Angeles where he studied at Musicians Institute. At this point in his life he had already started to experiment with a pair of Numark turntables. It was in this same city that, almost by accident, while playing at a rave he met Nico Camacho, and then the stage was set for what is now know as CAMACHO & VASS.
As a team, these two djs have played in some of the best raves/underground parties in LA such as DIG and We Rock Techno among others, as well as local clubs. It was in the year of 2007 however, that the two consolidated as an up and coming revelation while playing at the world renowned Winter Music Conference in Miami. Following their sudden success in Miami they have been called upon to play in several more events and clubs, locally and abroad. Their hard, dirty yet smooth style also translated and transcended to their home country where they have played in several occasions in some of the best clubs such as Cha-Cha and club Gotica, packing both clubs’ dance floor through the entire night. Such clubs have hosted some of the best dj’s in the world such as John Digweed, Nick Warren, Hernan Cattaneo, Deep Dish among others.
