The Wigan based band The Camarillas original line-up formed in September 2007 with Hannah Slater on guitar and vocals, Keith Lythgoe on lead guitar and keyboards, Mark Tompkins on bass and Mike Bell on drums. They played their first gig at The Tavern in Wigan on 17th January 2008 and recorded the EP Unearthed in the March of that year, which contained the 4 tracks; If I Loved You, Cracks, Let Me Know and Plateau.
They gigged extensively in 2008 throughout the North West of England, developing their style and finding their feet as a band. In the November of that year, drummer Mike Bell decided to leave due to work and home commitments. After a long hard look at the band, founder members Hannah and Keith, decided to concentrate on writing and experimenting more with their music. Using this time effectively, they wanted to progress and took to recording as a duo, where the tracks Cabaret and This War I Wage where produced in this period.
They played their first gig as a duo in June 2009 but really missed the feel and potential of what a full band could do. After quite a few auditions and non-starters later, they found their current drummer Garry Wells and shortly after, Karl Altdorfer joined them on bass guitar.
Hannah Slater first started writing music from the age of 18 and through a mutual friend, met Keith Lythgoe at a party in early 2004. It wasn’t until early 2007 that Keith considered doing something with the then basic demos Hannah had sent to him. Since then, Keith has co-written some songs with Hannah, producing some of their best material to date including Plateau and What I Came For.
The band has had their set backs along the way but they are more determined than ever to come back stronger and better as a result. Their style of music is reflective of its members and varies vastly, ranging from a folky-acoustic feel to a full on rock sound and they are forever evolving. Hard to describe or categorise, The Camarillas continue to write and produce music that is emotional, raw and interesting.
The band are set to record a new EP in January 2010 and start gigging again in February. As always, comment, chat, support and beer are always very welcomed!

All is fine here, busy with work but off to France again soon so looking forward to it. Night out would be great, just had a cracking night in Wigan last weekend and need to do it again soon. I'm sure Keith could still manage to lift a pint, even if he can't practice!! Hope to see ya soon, and don't forget..... work hard play hard. Steve
Hey Camarilla people, I have learned from underground contacts (K) that new songs are on the way. With all the impatience of an expectant father I'd like to cheer you on from the sidelines, more power to your elbow (and vocal chords) and hurry up an' get on with it, the withdrawal symptoms for Camarilla sounds are becoming unbearable. (I'd like Keith to get better first though) Steve
Hi Hannah, I was just thinking about you this morning and hey presto, there you are. Was out watching bands in Southport last night and I'm nursing a bad head at the moment but I've got work to do so I'll have to pull myself together. All is well here, I'm all over the country at the moment and next week Kim & Gill are off to Malta so it's party time!! I've already got gigs to go to from thursday to sunday so head isn't going to get any better i guess. Are you not lining up any more gigs yet, really missing not seeing you guys. It seems like ages since I last saw you. (It is!!) Good news about the house, no more scrotes eh? Whats it like, is it in good condition or, have you got loads of work ahead of you? As for 2nd job, form a band, write songs, become famous - easy. Great to hear from you as ever. Steve
