Cellist Suzanne Mueller is a graduate of both the Pre-College and College of The Juilliard School and has studied with such notable cellists as Alexander Kouguell, Channing Robbins, Harvey Shapiro, Marion Feldman, Lorne Munroe, and, most recently, Eugene Friesen, for improvisation, jazz and Latin performance, and composition. Her chamber music coaches have included Joseph Fuchs, William Lincer, and collaborative pianist Margo Garrett.
She made her New York recital debut under the auspices of Artists Internal, as a member of the piano/cello duo ELYSIAN DUO and went on to perform as half of its successor, ELYSIAN II, for ten years. Currently, she is Beech Tree Concerts Artist-in-Residence at Old Westbury Gardens (LI)., where she presents a series of outdoor summer concerts, and at North Shore Synagogue in Syosset (Long Island, NY). Since 2007, she has been a member of CROSS ISLAND, a duo with pianist Elinor Abrams Zayas that is often joined by clarinetist Joseph Rutkowksi, Jr., with whom Suzanne also performs as the duo Cello & Reeds. In addition, she is also half of McCarron & Mueller, a partnership formed in 2000 with guitarist/composer/arranger Mark McCarron, that has been performing in recent years with percussionist Stefan Schatz.
A proponent of non-traditional cello performance styles and genres, Suzanne is a member of the New Directions Cello Association. She currently performs with Retro Folk duo HUNGRYTOWN (Rebecca Hall and Ken Anderson), and with singer/songwriter Terry Winchell.
Hear her on HUNGRYTOWN'S self-titled album, Dave Rave's & Mark McCarron's In the Blue of My Dreams and Terry Winchell's Vice Versa (2007), Alli Collis’s Signal on the Starboard and Lauren Agnelli’s Love Always Follows Me (2004); Rebecca Hall’s Sunday Afternoon (2002); and the Cave Dogs'Joyrides for Shut-Ins(1990). She especially enjoys working collaboratively with artists to create the parts she plays and welcomes new collaborations.
When not playing the cello, Suzanne currently works as Compliance Manager in the Office of Development of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, the latest in a series of nonprofit managerial positions spanning a 20+-year career. In 2006, she led a workshop for Juilliard music students on finding the balance between music and other life elements that works for you - a topic to which she has devoted a great deal of thought.
I just wanted to thank you again for participating in this year's memorial service. I heard many compliments surrounding the cello and how it was the perfect fit for the service. Your beautiful playing moved many in the room, and it was a perfect addition to the service. Kate O'Brien, MA, MT-BC, LCAT, Music Therapist, The Komansky Center for Children's Health

Thank you Suzanne for including me among your friends. I greatly admire all the interesting and amazing talents you have and I am so honored by this friendship with you.
Yeah, Suzzane, you are right about tinnitus. I bring ear plugs with me everywhere I go. The folks last night got very gradually louder, and it snuck up on me. As soon as I noticed - I left. The damage was done. It's juvenial to crank the sound to damaging volumes. I will NOT stay at a place that thinks it's ok to injure me, nor will I go back. . As a composer and musician, my ears are one of my most treasured resources. I wish there were sound level meters being used in every club.
Great to be in touch and to join eachother's "circle of cyber friends." Thanks much for the praise of my "Jabberwocky Jam"; I'm enjoying listening to your work too!
Hello, Suzanne. I enjoyed listening to your music. I especially liked the chord progession and the musical accents in "Sylvie." Very pretty; I love it. Alan
