  • Bio

Cameron Britton was born in 1984 in Burlington, Ontario. He grew up in the small beach town of Grand Bend where he began to learn the piano at age 4 and the saxophone at age 10. At only 16 years old, Cameron began performing professionally with The All Smiles Jazz Quartet at events across Ontario. The band has become a staple at the annual Sarnia ArtWalk Festival, and Sarnia Jazz Festival, where in 2007 they opened up for the late great Jeff Healey and the Jazz Wizards. In July 2005 Cameron toured the Caribbean with the international choir, The Voices of Bahá, led by Tom Price. The group included Grammy award winner KC Porter, writer and producer for Ricky Martin and Carlos Santana. The choir performed major concert halls in the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico (where the band was joined by national icon, Nydia Caro), Venezuela (where the band recorded for television), Trinidad, Jamaica, and Florida. Cameron is the featured Saxophonist with Nandita Dias and the Jazz Ragas. They have performed with Cuban born guitarist/arranger/singer, Luis Mario Ochoa in support of Latin American charities. Nandita and Cameron were featured again at Exhibition Place in Toronto for the 2007 Masala! Mehndi! Masti! Festival—the largest South Asian music festival in the country and one of the best attended of all summer festivals. Cameron graduated from the celebrated Humber College School of Music with Honours in Spring 2007. Shortly after, he released his debut album, The Cam Britton Collective. Comprised entirely of original contemporary jazz music, the album has enjoyed immediate success, landing on Canadian airwaves and being distributed across the country. The CD release party was held at the Ultra Supper Club, one of the finest and most exclusive venues in Toronto, for an appreciative sold out crowd of 250 people. Cam Britton is known for his passionate improvising, consummate professionalism, and good energy on and off the stage, making him a much sought after sideman. He continues to perform regularly with the funky and soulful Kevin Howley Project in Toronto, ON, the poetic and inspiring Vaimoanna Heyman in Montreal, QC, with various jazz groups from around Canada and the US, and with his own groups, The Cam Britton Collective and the All Smiles Quartet. He is currently dividing his time between Toronto, Montreal and New York with his wife Krisy. To Buy Cam's new CD in Canada click: ..HERE... To Buy Cam's new CD in the US click: ..HERE...

  • Influences

My first major influence was the Dave Matthews Band in the late 90's. Their jam based music was so fun to play. I thought that LeRoi Moore must be the best saxophone player in the world. I think even today I get my pop sound from him. I soon afterwards discovered Jazz and attended "The Jazz Camp" in northern Ontario. The faculty at this camp is incredible. I am highly influenced by them all, especially Hugh Fraser and Mike Murley. Hugh has an incredible energetic, spirtitual and optimisic look on life and Jazz. His Compositions are amazing. Mike Murley has my favorite sound on the Saxophone. He is so melodic! As Far as the greats are concerned, I check out alot of Coltrane and Charlie Parker. I love Cannonball and Wayne Shorter. Outside of Jazz, I love Radiohead, Ani Difranco, Soulive, and Pink Floyd.
