"Camp Hope" took place in a field opposite the entrance to Gloucestershire Airport on the weekend of 20/21 October 2007.
Some of the visitors to the camp travelled from across the country, and others are local residents. Local organisations, such as Cheltenham Friends of the Earth and the Gloucester Green Party were represented, as well as protest groups such as Stop Bristol Airport Expansion and Plane Stupid. The majority of visitors on Saturday attended the talks and workshops, and a number stayed overnight, camping in sub-zero temperatures. A large yurt, complete with wood burning stove, provided surprisingly comfortable accommodation for many of the campers.
Over the weekend the campers were visited by BBC and ITV camera crews, radio reporters and journalists from the local newspapers.
Workshops and discussions were given by :
Hakkımda: Stop Staverton Airport Expansion is a coalition of groups including Concerned Residents Against Staverton Expansion, Cheltenham Friends of The Earth, Gloucestershire Plane Stupid and Gloucestershire Greenpeace. Staverton Airport want to increase the usable length of their runway and increase services.
The IPCC tell us that we need to reduce CO2 emissions by at least 90% or face catastrophic climate change. In the face of this, it is clear that we cannot continue to let airports expand due to the environmental impact of aviation, the UK's fastest growing source of CO2 emissions.

Tesco Torture Turtles! They die a prolonged death in agony, anyone can wield the knife and wild populations are being devastated. But Tesco claim there’s nothing wrong in selling live turtles to eat.
Tesco – one of Britain’s largest retailers – is currently making money off the back of animal torture, by selling live animals in their stores in China. Turtles are decapitated by staff without being stunned first – or are sold live to customers who take them home to kill in any way they choose. This cruel and barbaric trade is not only an animal welfare nightmare, it is also an ecological disaster.
Tesco is putting profit over principle. We know you won’t let them get away with it. More info - www. viva. org. uk

SILENT BUT DEADLY. Did you know that farmed animals produce more greenhouse gas emissions (18%) than the world's entire transport system (13.5%)? Or that nitrous oxide from animal manure is around 300 times as damaging to the climate as carbon dioxide? Or that methane ( cow and sheep farts/burps to you and me) has 23 times the global warming impact of carbon dioxide? MAKES YOU THINK DOESN'T IT? The only genuine way to cut down these harmful emissions is to stop eating meat. To find out more visit www. vegsoc. org/environment , or order your free booklet on 0161 925 2000, green@vegsoc.org. It's not just a lot of hot air.
VEG4LENT Reviving the ancient Christian Tradition of abstaining from meat consumption during Lent, we respectfully invite all Christians to use VEG4LENT as a period of reflection and prayer for all those currently condemned to the slaughterhouse.
As a contemporary adaptation of an ancient tradition, we politely urge each participant to adopt a vegetarian diet for each and every day between Ash Wednesday and Easter Sunday.
Lent is a sacred and spiritual period for Christians the world over. Greater empathy with Christ, gained during the Lenten period, allows us to be more receptive to the needs of our neighbour. As Christ taught us our neighbour is s/he who suffers. Are there any who suffer more than those condemned to the slaughterhouse?

Last weekend did bring hope that this issue is not yet over. What is happening at this airport is mirrored across the country, and that has to be tackled too.
