CANDID is an independent record label originating in New York City in 1960, specializing in modern and mainstream jazz, blues, Latin and world jazz.
Candid's vintage catalogue includes recordings by legends such as Charles Mingus, Abbey Lincoln. Cecil Taylor, Booker Little, Coleman Hawkins, Eric Dolphy and many others. With jazz taking on an increasingly global aspect, CANDID has widened its international scope and has a deep commitment to young up-and-coming artists at the cutting edge of the worlds dynamic musical scene.
Over the past ten years Candid have developed some of the UKs leading artists including Clare Teal, Stacey Kent and Jamie Cullum. Currently developing artists include Joe Stilgoe, Kyle Eastwood, Mishka Adams and Cormac Kenevey. Alan Bates, President/CEO of Candid, himself observes "there is amazing amount of wonderful talent to be heard far and wide in the jazz world at the end of this twentieth century. CANDID will continue to expose both established and emerging young artists and to strive at all times to live up to the important legacy handed down from those halcyon years."
