Official Biography of Candi Apple Couture: (Toronto, On) – Candi Apple Couture is a clothing line created by Annika Reid. She is a Model, Mother and now Designer who has created an eclectic mix of high end, contemporary, classic size sexy clothing created to enhance and celebrate the curvaceous woman. In 2007 Annika was a contestant in the Miss Canada Plus Pageant. For the talent portion of the show she decided to conduct a mini fashion show and wow the crowd with her idea of what a curvaceous confident woman should wear. To her surprise, she received such an overwhelming positive response from both the audience and the judges that she knew she had stumbled upon something more then a talent. This was her dream and it needed to be pursued. Since the age of five Annika loved clothing and always wanted to be a part of creating looks to make women feel as beautiful as they are. From an early age Annika was exposed to pattern making and sewing, fabric store after fabric store (thanks to her Aunt Sadie, who still continues to sew and design). She began to truly appreciate the art of the garment. She would watch her now late grandmother toil on the sewing machine for hours to create beautiful master pieces, some of which were created for her. At that young age she knew that fashion was and will always be her passion. As adolescence hit, Annika recalls growing more quickly than other girls her age. Clothing made for her age group did not fit at all. She began to believe that there was something wrong. Prompted by her Grandmother and Aunt she began to sew and design her own outfits in her mind and eventually started sketching on paper to create the looks she wanted to adorn. Annika was very fortunate to have a professional Seamstress in which she worked with. The seamstress understood her vision and together they set the trend for what is now called Candi Apple Couture. Today Candi Apple Couture continues to set trends for the voluptuous fashion forward fashionistas world wide who understand the importance of the statement a garment can make. “As a plus sized woman living in today’s society I understand the importance of feeling comfortable in your own skin and how your clothing can become a huge part of that process. It took a long time for me to over come a lot of self doubt and finally embrace my body and myself for who I am without fear or apprehension” says Annika. The Candi Apple Couture collection consists of bright bold colours, edgy hem lengths, and curve hugging fits paired with creative necklines, designed for the woman who loves herself and doesn’t want to fade in the background, but is proud to stand out in a crowd!
