Laid back, sociable, down to earth, beautiful & talented. "Sexy Gangsta" is probably the best words to describe Ms. Vamecia "Candi Redd" Rhodes. Born in Arkansas December 31, 1986 and hailing from Houston, S.W.A.T. (SouthWest Alief TX.) Candi Redd is one of the best hard-edged female MC's to hit the hip-hop scene out of H-town. Candi Redd made her name as a tough, profane rhymer whose hardcore attitude and lyrical skills are never in doubt.
She received the nickname "ReD" during her child hood because of her natural red hair, she later decided to spell it with an additional letter D' instead of one, and brought it to life as a reflection of herself , a Determined and Dedicated artist. Candi Redd began developing her skills and style, rapping at age 7. As a teenager, she was discovered by producer Birdo Beatz in 2003, when he heard her mean flow at Sun Rise Recording Studio, Birdo Beatz was over-taking by her lyrical genius, he attempted to sign her to his All- Star Entertainment label but her mother, Leasie Rhodes, intervened and insisted that Vamecia maintained her focus on her education. Mrs. Rhodes declined the contract and would not consent her daughter to sign at age 16.
Candi Redd was very upset about her mother's decision, she later learned that the terms of the contract was not in her best interest.
Refusing to allow minor set-backs stop her, she held two jobs over the summer coming out of her sophomore year to pay for studio time. She worked hard & hustled hard and was finally able to record her first mixtape, "Bench Warmer (I play no games)." With no management, she printed units of her own mixtapes and sold them all in her hometown and high school Alief Elsik. She has undeniably created a buzz in H-Town, known as one of the hottest female rap artists in the south. She has marked her territory in high school sports. She played shooting guard on the Elsik Varsity Basketball Team. Candi Redd has graced many stages with her amazing talents performing at teenage clubs, contests, events, parties, and rap artist competitions.
During the beginning of her senior year Candi Redd began recording her second mixtape. While working in the studio she became ill and decided to see a Dr. at West Houston Medical Center and discovered she was three months pregnant. Vamecia lost her basketball scholarship at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas. Shortly after, the relationship with she and her mother became bitter. She fell into a deep depression and discontinued her music. The spring April 2, 2005 Vamecia gave birth to a beautiful baby boy. She named her son Darius Kavaughn J. McIntosh. Month's after her son was born, she felt frustrated with life's obstacles and disappointments, working a regular nine to five, it became more difficult supporting her son. Determined and dedicated to her craft, she decided,
"Instead of sitting around making an excuse I decided to make it happen," says Candi Redd.
January 2006 she began recording material for her new underground project entitled "HUSTLE" Mixtape Vol. 1, which hit' the streets like a pitbull. The mixtape is twenty-two tracks loaded with the Candi Redd blazin lyrics & hot beats from beginning to end, mixed by: Dj White Mike. Shortly after she return to the streets for the second time with her latest project entitled, "IT'S NOTHING," with lyrics of a more mature nature showing growth and a different side of her.
"Having several styles and showing more versatility than the rest will give you longevity in the industry," says Candi Redd.
Before "IT'S NOTHING" could drop, Candi Redd was arrested and served two months in jail on possession charges and was realeased July 13, 2007. She decided it was time to take her career to the next level.
She's back , more ready, wiser, & better than ever. REDD TURN HEAD is finished and scheduled to drop soon! Candi Redd is presently in the studio completing her second album titled, "Candi Land" to be expected to hit the shelves in 2010.
