Candy And The Full Moons are an alternative pop rock trio from Newcastle who are already making a big noise- despite forming less than twelve months ago.
After months of rigorous rehearsals, Candy And The Full Moons took to the live scene at the beginning of 2009 and have been playing regular shows around Newcastle and Sydney since then, including support slots for The Skybombers (Melbourne), Numbers Radio (Brisbane) and a successful run in the Bacardi Band Search Competition with the band getting through to the semi finals. Candy And The Full Moons live set is engaging, energetic and heart-felt, the band’s sound betraying influences from The Atari’s, Kisschasy, Biffy Clyro, Rival Schools and many more. This melding of influences has seen the band’s live following grow with every show, while their debut recording Julia reached the Top 100 JJJ Unearthed charts.
After releasing Julia in June 09, the response the band received was overwhelmingly positive, with praise and recognition from both friends and industry alike. Capitalising on this initial interest, the band went back in the studio to record four more tracks, Keepsake, A Well Concealed Fear, Well Well Well and For You. These tracks, plus Julia, made up a five track Promo CD which was released at the beginning of October 09 -with the band deciding that the best method of getting their music out into the world was to just simply give it out- a refreshingly simplistic approach in the post-iTunes age. Julia was released as a free download on Myspace, as well as other music websites (Fasterlouder, mp3.com, Purevolume etc.) and a self pressed, five track Promo CD was distributed to fans at shows for free. Putting everything together themselves and giving it out for no cost, they made a product that was both appealing for fans and cost effective for the band…. and it is definitely paying off.
In the process of venturing out from their much loved local Newcastle scene to widen their fan base in places such as Sydney, The Central Coast, Wollongong and Canberra, the band is in pre-production for their first EP and video- with a tentative mid 2010 release date and east coast tour on the cards. As for the rest of 2010, the band shows no signs of slowing, and with this much momentum, it is clear that it will be a banner year for Candy And The Full Moons.
