Sounds Like
What the games been missing. A real MC with real music. A mix of revolutionary and gangster lyrics over a hard hitting live band.
Candyman 187 is set to bring a new era to Hip-Hop. With a team of artists, musicians and producers behind him by the name of The Havenotz, he proves to be an unstoppable force even before his first major release.
His lyrics bring a duality to Hip-Hop that goes unrivaled. The balance of the dark truths of street life and powerful revolutionary ideals blend effortlessly. These unmatched lyrical verses coincide with the classic Hip-Hop beats that lay the ground work for impressive live guitars, bass, drums, violins and keys. The result is an album that is unquestionably Hip-Hop with a strong crossover appeal.
Candyman 187 embodies a child raised amongst the chaos of hood politics. Candyman 187’s style of rapping was taught to him at a young age by Tupac Shakur. A brotherhood formed between Candyman 187, Tupac and Yaki Kadafi of the Outlawz resulted in the founding of The Havenotz. Tupac took Candyman 187 in as his little brother and protege, and not only mentored him but helped him perfect his skills in to the artist we hear today. His destiny is one of a true revolutionary musician who is eager to make an impact on anyone who will listen. “Revolutionary Suicide” screams out for change and pays homage to those who have risen against injustice. The influence of funk and life in California inspires Candyman 187’s “Kalifornia Soul” featuring AMG. It proves to be an instant classic with the promise of a chart-topping hit; “Kalifornia Soul” is sure to have the nation wishing they were from California. Tracks like “All My Life”, “Long Roadz” and “For My Peoples” never let up delivering hard-hitting lyrics, overwhelming sounds and strong grassroots allure.
Candyman 187 considers himself only one piece of a dream that requires a multitude of musicians and artists to achieve. Vocally he is accompanied by artists such as West Coast legend AMG and the venom-tongued female rapper Storm who deliver verses that compliment his own. Funk legend George Clinton of Parliament Funkadelic and female rapper Yo Yo also make memorable appearances on the album. Rod Castro lays guitar riffs on each and every Candyman 187 song, which prove over and over again to breathe even more passion into them. This is especially evident in “Long Roadz” which blends rock and rap in a way that captures the passion of both genres. Eliza James, violinist for Burt Bacharach, is featured on all tracks including “Revolutionary Suicide” and “Kalifornia Soul” and compliments the sound of the guitars perfectly with both classic and electric violin. DJ Wicked lends his turntable expertise to each track with perfectly timed scratches in true Hip-Hop form. An album filled with bass grooves by Cash, purposeful keys by Evan Hillhouse and thumping drums by Robin Diaz that come together to create music that speaks as loudly as Candyman 187’s words. Each element has been blended with an ear for perfection by Skip Saylor who has worked with Hip-Hop greats like Tupac Shakur, Ice Cube, Eminem, Dj Quik and many others. His thirty years of production experience has taken this project with promise and turned it into a pinnacle of what Hip-Hop should be.
The self-entitled album “Candyman 187 and The Havenotz” has caught the attention of everyone who has heard it. It has secured endorsement deals by companies like Carvin Guitars & Amps as well as others. The album’s progress has been documented in magazines such as Music Connection. It has also set the stage for a clothing line by Freehand Profit of The Havenotz which is only the first of projects to be brought about by the hard work of Candyman 187 and The Havenotz.
