The Cane Toads first got together for an impromptu pub gig way back in 1988. The stripped down three piece, consisting of David Hopewell on guitar and vocals, Humphrey Davies on bass and Pete Walton on drums was an instant hit.
Their music is rooted firmly in the blues but includes elements of country, soul and the type of grungy rock that Neil Young would be proud of. Their material is quite diverse, including a few classic blues songs along with a selection of self penned numbers. They are firm believers in the power of live music and the art of not playing songs the same every time. With hundreds of gigs under their collective belt the interplay between the band members is almost telepathic and their enthusiasm is infectious.
Other bands have come and gone but the Toads are still out there, entertaining folks and having a good time. Over the years they have supported various blues luminaries including Joe Louis Walker and have played several storming sets at the Colne Blues Festival.Their first recording "Horrid Din" was a selection of live recordings and was released in 1991. Their new CD "The Roadkill Tapes" is now available.
