And even more, my father, Harvey Hevenstone. Though not a musician he instilled in me a love of all music.
My name is Steve Hevenstone. I am currently living in the state of Georgia. I am the Co-Founder of the Jewish Rock Band "The Moody Jews" and the Founder and President of HMP Songs (Hevenstone Music Publications). Currently I am the Cantor for Greenfield Hebrew Academy in Atlanta, GA. I teach music, help out with the Performing Arts Department, and am working on solidifying the music Curriculum for the school. I also teach music at Ahavath Achim in Buckhead (a section of Atlanta, GA) and lead the music for the family services.
I am training to be a Hazzan (Cantor) under Hazzan Sam Fordis and Hazzan Y'Shaya Grama through a program called C.I.C.A. (Cantorial Interns of the Cantors Assemby). I have already taken and passed several of the tests for Invesititure and will be finished very soon. This will make me a full member of the Cantors Assembly (CA) and a Conservative Cantor.
I perform solo and also with The Moody Jews throughout the greater Atlanta area. My other band is "Project Chai" which consists of my two sons - Nathan on guitar and vocals, Aaron on drums and vocals, and also Alex Satinsky on vocals. Project Chai is a new endeavor which has already performed live and working on completing the band.
I am a composer and arranger of choral/instrumental/solo music. I am currently finihsing up a full-length musical about the founding of Israel - the working title is "1948". There will soon be a concept album of 1948 available utilizing various vocal talents including my dear friend and colleague Cantor Shira Adler of New York.
On this site are some samples of my originals. These samples are recorded in my home studio utilizing Sonar 5. I play all of the instruments and sing all of the harmonies. Periodically I will be changing the recordings.
