Welcome. In brief, my name is Richard Blackborow, and I make music in West Penwith, Cornwall. It's a truly terrible place, so please don 't think of visiting. Some inhabitants of this deep southwestern hell have started calling me Captain Black, for reasons best known only to themselves, but more fulsomely explained at www.pondlifeska.co.uk ______________________________________________________________
Between 1985 and 1995 I wrote songs, played rough guitar, plonked dodgy keyboards, and sang variably with an 'indie' pop group of modest repute called BOB, and you can hear a BOB tune on this page. Extension 'BOB' Please is an instrumental that we recorded for our 3rd John Peel session. ______________________________________________________________
Between 1996 and 2005 I recorded music under the name BLACKBIRD>, most of which hasn't seen the light of day until now. Most of my musical time is now spent either with PONDLIFE, with my new band ETHATONE, or at The Tinner's Folk Session.

Thank you to everyone who's contacted me, especially those of you recalling BOB fondly, and those of you who are digging ETHATONE. I'm hoping to launch a full BOB website soon, as part of a site called 'The Carne' which will be the home of all my creative output, old and new, as well as a repository for my various current fads, fixations and foibles. You can find out more about ETHATONE at: www.ethatone.co.uk

Hooray! New songs! Well worth the wait. And the new version of 'Metonymy' is even better than the old one which is some achievement. The sap is obviously rising in West Penwith. Hope it's all going well down there.
Ta very much for your kind words. I'm enjoying 'Metonymy' and 'The Optimist'. The object of digital desire that I have is the Yamaha AW1600. Yum! Funnily enough I shall briefly be in the region of Praa Sands next month, but sadly doesn't look like it coincides with a Pondlife gig, but perhaps we could meet over a pint of Tribute anyway. Hope all is groovy and your leg is good as new. T x
hey old man, obviously still haven't got the hang of technology yet - you sent me that message 10 times! i had to go through deleting them all so my friends didn't think i had some retardly clingy uncle...
haha anyway, yeah i heard about your new house it sounds wicked, i know its kinda short notice but i have a week off school when my exams are finished from the 9th-17th of june so if u were able to room me and a friend for a couple of days that'd sooo cool. if not dont worry tho, just an idea! and i see pondlife are playing in that time which would be fun to see but i dont actually no if thats a gig or what really. id LOVE to come to the big green thingy but im afraid im in barbados...tough life eh?!
comment back, maybe just the once this time, love and hugs xxx
Hi there,
I've just added both Convenience and Living For A Living to otter pop radio. Because they are good and my millions, er, several listeners deserve to hear them.
Cheers,
Matt
Great stuff you salty old sea dog. The New A.C. is rib-ticklingly creepy (in a good way) and Living for a Living is "classy with an insistent cherry nose and strong hints of old leather" according to my tasting notes. Carry on.
the eagle circles, it swoops and hopefully nests in pz in the next few days.
the ornithologist waits, binoculars in hand for the spectacle to unfold...and the eagle shall nourish the soul.
Hey Cap'n Black
Just heard some BOB doin a Peel session. Nice to hear Bloodline in a different light, an we're well into Scarecrow. Good to uncover your secret life ha.
Hope to gig with you soon
Cheers
