"Captain Cougar on debyyttinsä perusteella siitä harvinainen nuori suomalaisbändi, että se kuulostaa enimmäkseen täysin itseltään. Bändin skaala on laaja, mikä lisää levyn kuunneltavuutta.
"Rennon svengaavuuden, pirteän poppaamisen ja haaveilevien balladien välinen vaihtelu pitää kuuntelijan virkeänä...Eva Louhivuori laulaa hienosti, kappaleissa on kauniita melodioita ja ne on sovitettu monipuolisesti ja harkitusti."
"Chapters is a wonderful debut album and highly recommended if you are looking for beautiful and challenging pop music with truly marvellous female vocals."
Folkvaikutteista, melodista pop-musiikkia soittava Captain Cougar julkaisi kehutun debyyttialbuminsa "Chapters" loppuvuodesta 2007. Nyt yhtye valmistelee toista levyään, historialliseen viitekehykseen sijoittuvaa tarinallista teema-albumia, jonka pitäisi ilmestyä alkuvuodesta 2010.
Captain Cougar is a Finnish band formed in 2005, they've released their debut album on Pinetree Records in late 2007. This debut release was postponed due to personnel and record label difficulties. When the album was basically finished back in 2006, they found out there wasn't a label to put it out since their then-label had ran into serious financial trouble. Just when they got on their feet again, their lead singer decided to part ship. All that is past now as Captain Cougar steps forward with "Chapters" and this album is well worth the wait!
The band effortlessly combines modern guitar pop, indie qualities, americana and alt.country and they do it with that bold Nordic attitude which you know by now: mix it up and make it sound like it was meant to be that way! Who cares about genres except rock journalists who've been having difficulties trying to categorize Captain Cougar. "Futuristic americana" was one of the more creative efforts.
The core of Captain Cougar's music are classic pop songs with true melodies and simple yet thoughtful lyrics. The band plays these tunes economically, everything these guys play supports the song. And on top the crystal-clear female vocals of young and supremely talented Eva Louhivuori. As opposed to a typical indie-pop aesthetic of whispered vocals and shaky-at-best playing, this music is delivered with true skill and strong emotion. Give "Chapters" a chance and it'll grow on you!
Captain Cougar is currently working on their second record: a history-related concept album due to be released early in 2010.
After you've finished here, you may like to hear this poem sung on myspace...
Poem 162 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse (please see my blog): TEES TO TYNE: FIRST IMPRESSIONS - SUMMER 2001
Where traditions are not so rare; Sea, country and works scent the air; A multitude of monuments, Planted tubs and patterned pavements.
The longish pedestrian malls; The remnants of defensive walls; Historic buildings are a gauge Of the respect for heritage.
Wheat, rape and pines in the fields; Estuaries guarded by shields; Long sandy beaches and wide scenes; Romantic-ruin go-betweens.
Rivers in parts licked by trees, Or fringed by boat clubs, wharfs, gantries, And crossed by practical delights - Varied spans, forming pleasing sights.
Fine churches headed at Durham; Football kits ad infinitum; Kept castles - one for study; Masonry behind masonry.
And, with moulding-works out that way, It’s somewhere for a longer stay..?
