You are one of the wisest Jedi of them all, and have had a very eventful career full of failures and successes. You are a skilled fighter, having defeated many powerful opponents in your time. You are not overly aggressive, though. You are more reserved and collected. Your sense of morality is without question, and you are a model Jedi.
All my life I've been listening to and digging all kinds of music. When a babysitter gave me a gift of a Bill Haley record with what I thought was the theme song to "Happy Days" (Bill Haley's Rock Around the Clock, the Christopher Columbus of Rock & Roll), I was hooked on that '50's sound: Rockabilly.
The years passed and I discovered such artists as the Stray Cats, the Blasters, Jerry Lee Lewis, Eddie Cochran, and more, and wanted to write and sing songs like them, so I did. The first attempts were pretty crude, but I got better. I also fell in love with the concept of "filking," that is, making up new words to other songs, frequently with a certain theme in mind. In the Society for Creative Anachronism I achieved a level of notoriety for such "filks," including "Dear Fast Eddie," "The 12 Days of Pennsic," and "The Ballad of Sir Rhino."
I got me a harmonica and learned how to play it. I got me a guitar and learned three chords, A, D, & E. This earned me the sobriquet "Three Chord Monte." Under this title I played in the subways of NYC and got gigs in various locations around NYC, including Kenny's Castaways, 169 Bar, and 13 Little Devils. Among the original and covered tunes that got great response were "Dave Alvin's "You Got Me" (partially rewritten by Yours Truly because I forgot the words). a bluegrass version of Queen's "Fat Bottom Girls" which would segue into "Older Women," Leonard Nimoy's "The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins" sung in the style of Arlo Guthrie, and my own "M&M Song" and "Johnny B. Goode of the Lower East Side."
When the (seemingly) final installment of the greatest Space-Opera/Sci-Fi/Fantasy Motion Picture Franchise of All Time was due to come out, Veltis organized a party to celebrate it. Inspired by the Momentous Occasion, Your Truly banged out a couple of songs (Including "Come On Lady Jedi" and "Red 5" to the tune of "Rawhide") and, inspired by the short film by Darrel Gold (http://d24k.com/scrack/) decided to call the band the "Death Star Repairmen." The gig was a big hit, being recorded by Phil Fiumano's NY Rocks TV (http://www.nyrockstv.com) for his public-access cable TV show and by Verizon for a doccumercial (Which I have yet to see).
This combo has proved to have "legs," as they say, and has performed at various gigs around NYC and at sci-fi conventions. At times, the Death Star Repiarman has been seen in conjunction with Darth Luscious at costume events.
If anyone can get in touch with Daryl Gold, I would love to do some cross promotion between my music and his movie.
There are currently two CD's available from This Performer: "Captain Zorikh: Three Chord Monte Strikes Again 1.5," "The Death Star Repairmen: Another Night at Mos Eisley," and for the Society for Creative Anachronism, Ervald the Optimistic: The Ironfowl Songbook." Ha, the "First man of steampunk" I would definitely make the case for Verne or Wells, yes!
As for how the movement started, people point to William Gibson and "The Difference Engine" from '87 I believe? I'd have to look up the exact date... but that sparked a lot of the interest.
The strange thing is that it is such a spread out subculture that a lot of the biggest place it has for meeting is online. There are large pockets of steampunks in San Diego, Seattle, parts of S. Florida, Atlanta, and then spread out over New England; along with England and Australia. A few French steampunks are really getting into things and bringing new and interesting opinions, gizmos, and gear to the scene.
But it's hard to get the pulse of the culture with it so spread out, plus since steampunk has only recently started adopting certain musical acts, there haven't been many places to meet up and discuss things so it has been a rather solitary or "group of friends" advancement. It's fascinating!
