Capt. Bruce, Schooner Red Witch & Schooner Windy!'s Blurbs
About me: The Red Witch was built in Alabama, and was christened the same name. Her first home was in San Diego, after a few years there she moved to Hawaii for 2 years, without much success, she was moved back to San Diego and put on the market. She was bought buy a couple of guys in Ohio, where she was moved to. She went there via Austin TX. and Rt 10.
She hailed from Port Clinton OH. and sailed the Great Lakes, mostly in Lake Erie for the next 8 years, but actually made it to all the way to Chicago for the 2003 Tall Ships parade, where I had conversations with the owners.
I had no aspirations of owning a Tall Ship at that point. The next year Karen, (my wife) and I started a small sail charter company call Lakeshore Sail Charters. www.lakeshoresail.com During our first year we received many calls for larger parties, and as we could only take 6... they had really no other sailing options. In my efforts to grow our company, I was searching the internet for stories in the news, so maybe we could use them for ideas about what the "news" station though where news when in came to sail charter boats. The answer was not much, but I found a story about a schooner charter boat that had recently pulled up in boarding ramp (closed) and it had a schooner. Well, I called and they still had it! I was able to acquire some private financing and here we are! We are now in our third year, and every year, and we are getting better at managing this great ship. www.redwitch.com
New 2008 - If you don't know already, we added a BIG schooner to our fleet, the 148' Tall Ship Windy, www.tallshipwindy.com Take a took and let me know what you think!
Thanks for reading.
As for me, Capt Bruce, I grew up in Quincy Mass, went to Austin-Cate Academy in New Hampshire for High School, then I worked at Papa Gino's for a few years, got bored, joined the Air Force and was station in Guam, met first wife, left the USAF. Moved with her to RAF Upper Heyford in England, had two great kids. Divorced her. Moved to Chicago, I love it here, still do. Married and divorced again, married and still very happy!!
Now we own TWO sail charter businesses together. www.redwitch.com and www.tallshipwindy.com These are the web sites to our tall ships, schooner Red Witch, which we charter out, and the windy which mostly does ticketed sails from Chicago world famous Navy Pier! That is my life in a paragraph... want to know more.. just ask :)
Capt Bruce
Who I'd like to meet: I'd like to meet a lot of people... lets start with you!
Drop me line.
Thanks for the add! Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails... Explore... Dream... Discover..."
I guess I will have to try to get up to the Chicago area sometime time. I'll be in Florida until April and then hopefully going to Europe with Bounty this summer. If you're around Florida let me know and we'll go exchange stories.
That picture was from last november. Me and this other guy named Jimmy McManus drove to Chicago and then to the east coast and then to San Diego. Do you know a Saul Lipton and a Sam Sikkema? I am working with Sam right now and have been since november and I've worked with saulie on Lynx last season.
Mornin' Cap'n! Hope you have a great week! Thanks for the add. What a beautiful ship you have. Love to sail on her one day! Thanks for the preservation of the Red Witch and keeping Maritime History alive! Janelle
Bruce! I was at McCormick Place this week and happened to look out the window of the East Hall and saw The Red Witch sailing north, seemingly without your foremast set, which looked curious.
I hope all is well with The Windy and your charter business. Are you getting any work out of the exhibitors at the IMTS running September 8-13?
Soo how is everything going with the new ship and crew? I know your staying busy. Hope the weather is treating you right. Can't wait to see ya in september.. Hope you still got time for a game or two of pool. love ya!
Hey bro, just thought I would drop in and show you some love. Been a min since we have talked. Lots has gone on in my world. Me and Megan are no longer. Were planing a trip to Vegas, I know your gonna be busy but maybe you would like to come along. Well Gotta run bro, Love ya!
Hey Bro, just a lil heads up your future sister in-law is in town and staying out at my moms. She is watching sadie! I know she's not the best with making phone calls, so maybe you can give her a ring. Possably get her out of the house for a night! Love ya bro, take care of yourself!
Sounds grand. Especially since I know that you have an excellent recipe for rum punch - and now that Barbados was a month ago and the tan has faded, I would love some punch. Unfortunately, I booked a flight to SD this wknd to see my lil sis play hoops and completely forgot it was the big game. Next time!
