When David Crosby (CSNY) first heard Wammie Award winner Carey Colvin, he said, "Definitely give up your day job!" Carey's "warm, expressive, and powerful vocals draw you into her world with grace, humor, and panache" (Richard Fox, WCUW-FM, Worcester, MA). Her award-winning debut album, The Distance Wall, is a compelling recording with award-winning songs that feature an effervescent concoction: A dash of blues, rock-edged pop, and pop-influenced contemporary folk. While she is available as a solo performer, Carey for the most part performs in a duo format with her husband and musical partner, Granger Helvey, on electric bass and vocals. She received the 1997 Wammie Award for Folk-Contemporary Female Vocalist, the 2000 Wammie Award for Debut Recording of the Year, and the pair have received nominations in several categories over the years, including Female Rock/Pop Vocalist, Male Rock/Pop Vocalist, Rock/Pop Instrumentalist (Granger), and Folk-Contemporary Duo/Group. Carey has also received awards for her songwriting skills in the Folk, Alternative, and Rock categories.
