About me: "STAND UP - Educate the Youths," the Caribbean Education Benefit Concert 2009 is about “leadership, pride and compassion”, and how they intertwine to “educate the youths.”

Artists, especially musicians, have always been the voices of those without.

The Griot tradition in Africa is one of messengers, story-tellers and historians who often passed on their messages in song. These are messages of love, tales of warning or observations of society. The creators of music, throughout history, have led movements with their work and helped transform our culture for the better.

REGGAE is Leadership Music!
___________________________________________________________
Reggae music is at the cultural center of Jamaica and has always been leadership music--music with something to say. The fathers of Reggae, including Joe Higgs and Bob Marley risked it all to lead their people toward a brighter future.

THE
CARIBBEAN EDUCATION FOUNDATION (CEF) is a nonprofit, independent, non-governmental and nonpolitical organization based in the United States. It focuses on increasing meaningful educational access and literacy in Jamaica, the Caribbean and developing world. Our effective education solutions will significantly increase economic and social opportunities for all people.
___________________________________________________________
HOW DOES CEF HELP? CEF awards scholarships to poor children in the Caribbean to attend school. Our current mission country is Jamaica, but we will expand to other regions in the Caribbean/Latin America in a year or two. The major issue in Jamaica is children's lack of access to schools. Primary School ends at Grade 6 and children have to pass an exam to get into High School (which begins Grade 7-13).
____________________________________________________________
A critical problem is that very bright children pass their exams for high schools, but are unable to attend due to lack of funds. HIGH SCHOOL IS NOT FREE in Jamaica and parents cannot afford to pay the High School fees, purchase books, transportation, etc.
___________________________________________________________
CEF grants scholarships to children at all levels of education, but we focus on high school students. Our long-term goal is to ensure that each child who passed her or his exam for high school will be able to attend. We would like to thank the generosity of our sponsors, donors, partners and friends of education in the developing world.
