CARIVEGAN! is an organization that is dedicated to bringing vegan, environmental, and ecological education to the islands of the caribbean.
ANIMAL RIGHTS DERECHOS DE LOS ANIMALES
we are currently focusing on the PR animal welfare state, and working with Save A Gato’s TNR (trap neuter & release) program to try to reduce the stray cat population.
VEGANISM/VEGETARIANISM
o The torture animals are put through in factory farms, as well as the horrible environmental effects, are our main reason for spreading the vegan word on the island.
o We have made available over 100 Guides to Being Vegetarian in Spanish, as well as English, and other vegetarian publications and media.
o CARIVEGAN! Is also proud to announce we have taken over the spice garden at the Casa Blanca community garden (at the end of Calle St. Sebastian) and have planted many fresh organic herbs using soil from the rainforest in Luquillo, and absolutely no pesticides, insecticides, chemicals, or hormones of any kind.
o When this project is completed, we will be opening the fully-organic garden to the public, and we plan to give free courses including: organic gardening, the difference between organic and genetic growing, and the importance of eating organics.
RECYCLING
We are poud to introduce the CARIVEGAN! recycling project! Puerto Rico has a wonderful recycling program, but no pick-up in Viejo San Juan. So we started a grassroots program to GET SAN JUAN RECYCLING!!
While waiting for a grant from the government (I have a feeling we should get used to the waiting…), we are personally picking up recycling from businesses and asking the residents to meet at the corner of Calle Sol and Calle Tanca from 10 AM-2 PM every Saturday and Sunday to drop off their recycling. We will make the trips to the collection center in Hato Rey.
THE HATO REY RECYCLING STATION:
This drop-off center is very easy to get to, and is open almost all the time! From Route 1 (Luis Muñoz Marín), make a RIGHT at the first light in Hato Rey (after the train station) onto SANa GERMAN. Almost immediately you will see a huge parking lot on your right with a white metal fence around it. The recycling drop off is in the back of this parking lot. Make a RIGHT into the main entrance, and follow signs to the recycling station.

We are happy and proud to announce that The Hub City Stompers' new full length CD "Ska Ska Black Sheep" featuring 6 brand new tunes and 6 wicked dubs and versions of HCS classics is IN STOCK NOW and available exclusively through Stubborn Records.
"Shark finning" is when fishermen cut off the fins of the shark and throw the live animal back into the ocean in order to save space on the boat. The shark drowns or bleeds to death on the ocean floor. Shark fins can sell for over $300 per pound due to the demand for shark fin soup, an Asian "delicacy".
Some species of shark populations have plumetted by 99% in the last 20 years and are in danger of becoming extinct, due mainly to the practice of finning.
HERE ARE 8 SIMPLE WAYS TO HELP STOP SHARK FINNING:
1. Don't eat shark fin soup! Don't eat in restaurants that serve it until they stop.
2. Support organisations that are fighting to save marine wildlife such as Sea Shepherd and Wild Aid.
