This is never what I expected my life would be.
I grew up a disciplined and quiet churchgoer and never thought anything else about it.
I couldn’t get a guitar when I wanted because I wasn’t taken seriously.
I couldn’t be happy because I didn’t take myself seriously.
I always had questions because I never cared to ask them.
I always considered myself a Christian, just because I was raised that way. Christianity was always the ticket to get me into Heaven where I would never cry and the streets were gold.
I had never questioned why I went to church, why I had to wear stuffy dresses, or why I had to be quiet. I just went along with it.
When I decided that I wanted to see who this God was that all of my elders were talking about, my life took a drastic new direction.
I never expected to find what I did.
This God was more than just a lifeline.
Heaven was more than a place mentioned after deaths.
And I could speak for the God of the universe.
March 18, 2008.
It’s not your typical occasion remembered.
That day I became a messenger. A reflector. A “regurgitator” if you will.
God gave me the ultimate task of ministry through speaking.
To most, this would be terrifying. Don’t get me wrong, it was shocking to me, as well. But public speaking is the number one fear in humans, and I was the voiceless girl who was told to speak to crowds for the rest of her life.
But, I can’t wait to see what happens.
God is my comfort, my rock, my purpose. I don’t want to sound just as pushy as everyone else, or preach the same Jesus sermon.
And most importantly, I don’t want to push you away.
I am a teenager, 17, who gets distracted very easily, loves meeting new people, and knows how to engage in a conversation.
So this means we can talk.
About anything.
Get to know me, and you will see that I can’t fit into that mold that the world has given me as a Christian, a female, even a teenager.
I don’t work like that.
I have goals. I want to speak the truth. I want to ask questions. I want to run a marathon. I want to make it to the Guinness Book of World Records. I want to show the world that we as the human race are not all the same, yet exactly the same.
I’m Carla, and I would love for you to inspire me.
