CARLA MARCIANO is an Italian musician and composer from Salerno. She plays alto and sopranino saxophones.
She started studying music first playing the piano and then the alto saxophone and she took her diploma in clarinet at the State School of Music in Salerno.
For some years she played with the "Matera Concert Band", directed by Ettore Fioravanti.
"TRANE’S GROOVE” (with Alessandro La Corte-piano, Aldo Vigorito and Dario Deidda-bass, Donato Cimaglia-drums) is the title of her first cd, released by DDQ (Black Saint/Soul Note - IREC) in 2002.
Thanks to this project she wished to pay homage to the great John Coltrane, with original compositions and some standards and a particular attention to his modal period.
Her second cd "A STRANGE DAY" has been released in 2005 by BLACK SAINT, Bonandrini’s prestigious as well as historical Italian label, so much appreciated in USA. Few Italian musicians record for this label and Carla Marciano is one of them.
With the precious collaboration of Alessandro La Corte on piano, Aldo Vigorito on bass and Gaetano Fasano on drums, the project develops a personal discourse, mainly through original compositions. With a precise sketch at the bottom, the quartet proposes a passionate and instinctive music, sometimes impetuous and vehement and sometimes interrupted by spiritual atmospheres and moments of meditation and reflection.
In 2006 Carla Marciano introduced this cd in USA, performing with her quartet at three important jazz festivals: the HARTFORD INTERNATIONAL JAZZ FESTIVAL, the FIREHOUSE 12 Jazz Festival in New Haven and the ITALIAN WOMEN IN JAZZ FESTIVAL (produced by Italian Cultural Institute of New York) at Symphony Space Theatre, on Broadway in New York.
"CHANGE OF MOOD" is the title of her new cd recently released by BLACK SAINT. She plays with the same quartet (La Corte - Vigorito - Fasano) and this is the first cd that contains only her compositions.
Marciano has attracted attention from numerous jazz magazines, among which: JAZZ TIMES, CADENCE MAGAZINE, JAZZ IT, MUSICA JAZZ, JAZZ MAGAZINE, JAZZ REVIEW, ALL ABOUT JAZZ, JAZZ MONTHLY and many others and her cds have received extremely positive reviews. Moreover her cds have been introduced in some national radio and TV programmes ("Sottovoce" RAI 1 - "Music Club" RADIO 1 RAI -"Radio 3 Suite Jazz", "Battiti", "Fonorama" RADIO 3 RAI - "Al Top Musica", "Alta Fedeltà" SAT 2000 - etc.) and international [RTSI/ Radiotelevisione Svizzera - WRTC, WWUH, WPKN, WNUA, KLCC, WICN (USA) - SMOTH FM (UK) - BAYERN 2 RADIO (D) and many others].
The cd “A STRANGE DAY” has been included in the prestigious American CADENCE MAGAZINE’s TOP TEN CDs' list for 2006.
Already included in the Top Ten List of the "Best Italian New Talent" category of the TOP JAZZ 2005, Carla Marciano is in the fourth position in the same category of TOP JAZZ 2007, the critics' poll organized by the MUSICA JAZZ Italian magazine.

Thanks so much for the add–and your friendship. We enjoyed your music very much. Thanks for sharing it with all of us. It's a pleasure having you among our friends!
We hope you and your friends enjoy our music, too. We've just added four new compositions and two new blogs about Umano.
We wake up every morning and play the music of the new MySpace friends who have arrived at our site during the night. It occurred to us that these friends (you are among them) are almost universally positive, whether they be novices or legends, and without regard to their station in life or the country they occupy.
It also occurred to us that we couldn’t hold a verbal conversation with most of these friends, but we have bridged that gap by expressing our art honestly with each other.
We all have been filling the world with our music and art, in the hope that our messages of love and human understanding will have an impact on the world at large.
What a gift and what an opportunity we have received from this technology!
