**Carley has a nifty little Q&A with Women Who Rock. Check it out!**
You Can't Control The Weather is almost here!! I could still use some help getting it out into the world, so if you'd like to have a hand in shaping a girl's future, click the link and give away!
All proceeds go towards mixing, mastering, and packaging the album in something that didn't come from Kinko's. :-)
Update: Carley's next project was going to be called Ordinary Stone. Then a string of calamities struck: the project was halted, the track list was scrapped, and the players disappeared. Faced with an even longer gap between albums, Carley took these setbacks in stride: she retooled the track list, re-enlisted players, and is AT THIS VERY MOMENT wrapping up recording on the new project.
In light of how unpredictable circumstances can be, the new title of the album, You Can't Control The Weather, serves as a reminder that sometimes things happen that are beyond one's control; it is up to each of us whether we want to get upset, or roll gracefully with whatever comes our way.
*****************************
Carley Baer is not your average chick with a guitar.
She has a confessional writing style that is introspective rather than imperative, but what this songstress has going for her most is her voice. Alternating between soft subtlety and brazen belting, she possesses a range that most singer/songwriters only dream about.
Music was a huge part of her life beginning in the early 80s, as she grew up figuring her way around a 20-key Casio keyboard. Once her musical tendency was made apparent, she was encouraged to play the violin; however, she politely declined the study, and instead set to teaching herself the guitar.
Now, almost a decade later (and with several hundred live performances around the country under her belt), Carley has drawn a definite bead on her natural style. Once consumed by the stereotypical girl-with-guitar-sings-unrequited-love-songs hysteria that dominates most girl rock, she has evolved into a rational, self-examining storyteller. She explores everything from traveling by train due to a devastating fear of flying, to taking bike trips across Wisconsin, to pondering how life might be different if she were a squirrel or jellyfish. She also waltzes with bears in her spare time.
She has self-released a CD (2006's "Still Life") and an EP (2007's "Carley Baer EP"). The EP is available for digital download at www.cdbaby.com.
Stay Tuned for info about the CD release! Many thanks to everyone who's helped make this possible, especially Liam Flanagan and Down Stares Studios. :)
Thanks for being our friend! Come out and just enjoy the show, or jump in and participate (liquid courage available at the bar!). Do you or your friends have something to share with us?
Hi Carley! I had an amazing time playing with you last night as well. I thought the entire night was so fun and inspirational. I love your songs and your slammin' guitar playing :) Can't wait to play another show with you. We should get together some time for a drink and just jam a little. Hope to see you on the 26th. xo
