sunshine, rain, dragonflies and lilies, willow trees, the sounds i hear when i lay in bed at night and can't sleep - both outside my window and those that ring in my head, the colors in a monet painting, expressionism - the colors someone else sees in nature that i can't, the flavors in chai tea, ginger and spice, human anatomy, the unknown, broken hearts and the love that puts them back together, my wonderful family and my dearest friends
"Anyone listening to Carley Tanchon's debut CD Peridot for the first time could be forgiven for thinking it's the work of a much older, more seasoned musician. Her sophisticated songwriting has a strong sense of structure but it's full of off-center touches that make the songs distinctive. And there's an expansiveness and reflective depth to her vocals on tunes like the torchy, experienced "Don't Chill This Flame" or the intricate jazz-blues strut of "Waiting" that belies her 22 years. She moves easily from country-tinged rocker "Image of a Man," which features the sort of complex, ambivalent lyrics you rarely find in such tunes to pensive, acoustic-flavored songs like "Fool's Gold" and the folksy "Derailing Home"."

"...the one constant is good songs with lyrics that wrap around instrumentation that only helps to enhance the voice. Carley Tanchon’s debut album Peridot leans on he poppier side of the genre but throughout the album her voice is the shining jewel of it. By combining a multitude of instruments, Tanchon captures your attention from the get go with this album as the pluck of the mandolin pulls you into album opener “Crystalline,” and her voice takes over from there instantly capturing you. As you dive forward into the album the pop side begins to shine and take center stage on cuts like the sultry “Waiting” and the late 60’s styled folk rocker “Image of a Man.” However, Tanchon does take time to include some of those coffee shop tinged tracks as well. Songs like “Fool’s Gold” and “Come Around” allow her vocal and lyric to be the true focus of the song as it surrounds you as very little instrumentation is backing them throughout the songs. The overall feel of this album is one that combines all the degrees and elements of the genre capturing every side of it perfectly without letting one style or the other overstay their welcome giving this album a perfect balance throughout." -Guest List Magazine
"If this were the late '90s Tanchon would be a shoe in for Lilith Fair. She sprinkles her songs with touches of country and soul. Her voice emotes all the passion of a desperate housewife off of her medication. It's the same sound and emotion that Paula Cole displayed on her first two records...Tanchon's vocal prowess cannot be denied. Her slow burning crescendo on the jazzy "Waiting" rivals Bono's vocal gymnastics." -Atlanta Music Guide
"Carley’s music is best described at folk rock. As apparent in that first song, Carley definitely has the chops to stand among the top performers of that musical style."
"Carley Tanchon absolutely has the talent to make a name for herself. One of these days, Carley will be as much a household name as Bonnie Raitt or Norah Jones."
