Carlos Ferreira comes from Vila Isabel, a suburb of Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) which is to samba what old New Orleans is to jazz. Carlos
is (as they say in Rio) a "Carioca da Gema" - a genuine Carioca.. (Only people born in Vila Isabel are considered to be "Carioca da
Gema").
Carlos has been playing samba for 52 years. He is the founder of the Melbourne Samba School (MelSamba – http://MelSamba.com ),
Australia's oldest Samba School (1988). Carlos also leads BRAZJAZ, SUINGUE BRAZUCA, CARLOS FERREIRA QUARTET, CARIOCA DA GEMA & BANDA DO FORRÓ RETADO.
Carlos has been offering workshops worldwide for several years now. They are extremely successful and students will learn a great
deal from them. Countries visited (apart from Brazil and Australia) include China, Canada, New Zealand, Ireland, Spain, England,
Scotland, Iceland, Slovenia, Sweden, Japan, USA, Germany and Switzerland.
Some international activities Carlos has been involved with in the last few years:

Janeiro (22 Feb 2009).

2009 - Invited by the Brazilian Embassy in New Zealand to tour the country and teach in four cities. Carlos combined the four
baterias (120 percussionists) to perform at the Grand Finale of the Cuba Street Carnival in Wellington.
Each bateria played a rhythm by itself then combined them together creating an amazing effect.

WHAT THEY SAY ABOUT CARLOS:
==========================================================================
"Carlos is a great teacher and is very adept at conveying the hardest thing to teach, the spirit of samba. As Musical Director of the
Festival Cavalcade he managed to teach four sambas and samba reggae tunes to over 100 musicians, many of who had never
played together before, in just two days!
We look forward to working with Carlos again soon, very soon."

"Hi Carlos
Thank you so very much for your fantastic workshops, and the way you painlessly brought over 400 drummers together to play
'Aquarela Brasiliera' in about 20 minutes!! What an achievement!
We are looking forward to meeting you again next Summer - I very much hope you can find the time to fit in another trip down here to
the South West, we would love to work with you again.
Very best wishes to you and Mandy, and thanks for all you did once again
Best regards,
Andy Bilham
