CARLOS SEVERE MARCELIN "... a truly brilliant guitarist" writes SP Clarke about this emerging American composer whose varied style takes different musical incarnations. A Music Composition and Theory student under Polish Composer Barbara Jazwinski, his work crosses genre between the symphonic, modern rock, the ancient, eastern, western and the surreal. He created the musical score for Sally Tomato's "Toy Room" and has had 7 other CD releases as well as numerous unpublished chamber pieces to his credit. Carlos performed with New Orleans based sextet Silkenseed and currently plays with Portland, Oregon trio Sally Tomato in addition to performing his works in solo format and with his lifelong drummer, Eric Flint, in the duo Pidgin.
Just when you’re settling into a comfortable bed of musical fabric woven from lush aural textures, industrial percussion may sneak in, or more than a surprise-worth of unexpected twists may come into play. Using occasional dissonance and dramatic harmonies alternating the obscure with the accessible, Carlos Severe Marcelin's music leaves an indelible expression on the ear of the listener.
Current projects include:
- the promotion of the feature-length film of Sally Tomato's "Toy Room" throughout the festival circuit. Carlos co-authored the script and wrote most of the soundtrack. The film is slated for release in summer of 2009.
- in the studio with Pidgin recording "Planets", a song cycle.
- composing the indeterminate soundtrack for the installation piece T.E.D. (transforming emotional deconstruction), a multimedia work by Sean Hathaway.
