Amsterdam clubbing these days wouldn’t be the same without the ongoing efforts of dj/producer/promoter/labelowner Carlos Valdes. Not only has he enriched the city’s nightlife with a series of refreshing initiatives, breaking new artists from abroad and pushing a young generation of local talent. He’s also managed to become one of Holland’s most respected and loved underground dj’s, setting dancefloors aflame across the Netherlands and abroad.
The variety of influences marking his upbringing (Chilean parents, childhood in Holland) is still reflected in his dj-style: a hybrid of different genres, spanning from techno to thumping house. As Carlos is regularly playing most of Holland's leading festivals and venues, more and more people are starting to embrace his extraordinary blend of sexy grooves. And with recent appearances at some of Europe’s leading clubs & festivals (Panoramabar, Robert Johnson, Fellini, D Edge, Dama de Ferro, Awakenings Festival, Cadenza Labelnight, Circo Loco Amsterdam, Planetarium), his first flirts in the studio (together with Julien Chaptal on Remote Area and , and the launch of his own label Studio Soulrock (together with Steffi) the future looks bright.
Carlos has been playing an active role in nightlife from an early age. His company Soulrock (founded in 2000) has organised many parties in cities across the Netherlands, and hosted stages at some of the country's leading festivals. His Vreemd clubnights have been Amsterdam's most popular Thursdays for almost four years now. They inspired Carlos to start Soulrock Bookings, which is currently representing a bunch of promising (inter)national artists in Holland and abroad, including himself.
The latest chapter in Soulrock history is the founding of Studio Soulrock together with DJ Steffi. The first release by Bootleg Bitches hailed support from dj's and critics worldwide and a second release by San Proper & Steven de Peven (remixes by Pitto and Steffi, due 2009) is already being played by lots of dj's. Carlos himself was featured as a vocalist on Julien Chaptal's widely acclaimed album Tokens. The next step for him is a release with Sandrien, Aron Friedman and even solo, which should express his superb musical taste even better.
On the 16th of April Carlos will launch a new club night called Vinyl People a the new infamous club Trouw.

La escena de clubs en Amsterdam hoy no serían lo mismo sin el esfuerzo y aporte del Dj/productor/promotor/dueño de sello Soulrock, Carlos Valdés. No solo ha enriquecido la vida nocturna con innovadoras y refrescantes iniciativas, sino también a brindado a jóvenes artistas y talentos, nuevas posibilidades. Considerado en Holanda como uno de los dj’s mas respetados y querido de la escena underground, Carlos “arma la fiesta” tanto en pistas holandesas como extranjeras
La variedad de influencias que le han brindados su padres chilenos desde su niñez en Holanda se refleja en su estilo como dj: una mezcla que abarca desde el bit del techno hasta el espíritu del house.
Carlos toca regularmente en importantes festivales de Europa como Awakenings Festival, Rockit Festival, Free your Mind Festival y cada vez mas la gente aprecia su mezcla sensual de grooves. Además ha tocado en renombrados clubs europeos como: Panoramabar (Berlin), Weekend Club (Berlin), Robert Johnson (Frankfurt), D Edge (Sao Paolo), Dama de Ferro (Rio de Janeiro), Fellini (Barcelona), Macarena (Barcelona), Planetarium (Vienna).
Carlos tiene un rol activo en la vida nocturna desde una edad muy temprana. (18) Su empresa Soulrock (fundada en el 2000) ha organizado fiestas y festivales en toda Holanda. Desde hace ya 3 años, su fiesta “Vreemd” (Extraño) en Amsterdam, es el evento más popular de los jueves. Esto inspiró a Carlos a empezar su agencia de bookings de artistas, Soulrock, que en la actualidad representa a 19 talentos tanto holandeses como extranjeros.
El ultimo acontecimiento en la historia de Soulrock es la creación, junto a DJ Steffi, de Studio Soulrock. El lanzamiento del primer EP Bootleg Bitches fue elogiado por dj’s y críticos de todo el mundo. El segundo lanzamiento de San Proper & Steven de Peven (remix de Pitto y Steffi 2009) es incluido en el set de muchos dj’s.
