Pianos are not furniture! Piano players should not be expected to be in the background playing "Moon River". I have done my thing since the early 80's which includes the release of an LP (remember vinyl?) called "The Tower" which featured my first nine orginial tunes plus a cover of P.McCartney's "1985". In the year 1986, a new album was released on cassette only (remember those?) called "SECTION 8", which has since been re-released on CD. This was a fun record to make. In between my 7 originals plus 3 covers, me and my mini-crew consisting of JAMIE HOOVER and engineer MARK WILLIAMS spontaneously recorded spoofs on PRINCE, and pet food commercials. The year 1990 brought the release of "FIRELANDS". The first recording of mine to be released on CD. (you'll remember those). This CD featured more of my tunes as well as songs from SPONGETONE member STEVE STOECKEL, producer DON DIXON, and one from Charlotte's favorite all around piano guy GREG JAMES. More discography. In 1992, I wished for a change of scenery and travelled all the way up to Minneapolis where a CD entitled "TWILIGHT DREAMER" was created in the outskirts of Minneapolis. "Guitarist BILLY McLAUGHLIN produced, and played all the guitars. No animals were harmed during the production of this CD, however our engineer yelled at the cat sometimes. The last CD to be released other than SECTION 8 in 2004, was a compilation disk called "...in case you haven't heard... which featured all 10 songs from "FIRELANDS", and 7 songs from "TWILIGHT DREAMER". As of now, there are 11 tunes ready to be released including some of the best from STEVE STOECKEL, as well as remakes of well-known tunes such as The Beatles "LET IT BE", Billy Joel's "VIENNA", "RIDE, CAPTAIN RIDE" by Blues Image and Paul Simon's "ONLY LIVING BOY IN NEW YORK" which features my daughter, Adriana singing harmonies in her first time appearing on a recording. We are waiting for one more "Carltune" to be born, before this CD can be released into the atmosphere. Aside from doing my own material, I also perform tribute shows to ELTON JOHN & BILLY JOEL. (see www.carlrosen.com) As far as performing live, there may be others to join Carl on stage in the near future. Going at it all alone makes one weary. Weary? Yeah, I think that's a good way to put it. "BRIDGE OVER TROUBLED WATER is a beautiful song, one of my favorites to sing.
My favorite sound combos are grand piano, with Hammond organ and acoustic guitar. Like adding harmonica, accordion and some flute recorder on some songs. I like to think of a song as an amusement park ride. WOW- THAT WAS GREAT! Let's do it again.
My favorites to listen to include: The Who, Paul Simon, Peter Gabriel, older Springsteen and Elton John, as well as Coldplay and Bjork. Also like "Deep Forest", David Byrne, Kinks, Suzanne Vega, Sheryl Crow, Bob Seger and Enya. I finally found out Enya's last name. It's Face. Cannot deny Billy Joel and McCartney's influence on me. My opinion on best male vocalists ever: Roger Daltrey and Art Garfunkel. Never forget Carly Simon, Annie Lennox , Joe Walsh, Ringo Starr and Fleetwood Mac. Christine McVie was always my favorite in that band.
