The Carlsbad Music Festival is an annual alternative classical music festival featuring master artists and the next generation of cutting-edge, world-class musicians premiering new works and performing fresh and compelling music in concert and in the community. This year’s sixth annual festival brings together some of the country’s most talented young performers and composers, all with a keen sense of musical adventure, for our most exciting season yet.
This year’s program features legendary guitarist/composer/improviser, Fred Frith; acclaimed new music ensemble, the California EAR Unit; the Festival’s ever-exciting Founding Ensemble-in-Residence, the Calder Quartet; four of the country’s most fascinating young composers, Ted Hearne, Charles Punchatz, Jason Treuting and Daniel Wohl; and Festival Director, Matt McBane.
The Carlsbad Music Festival was founded in 2003 by composer Matt McBane for its first festival in the spring of 2004. It has since received critical acclaim and drawn large and enthusiastic audiences to its concerts in the coastal California city of Carlsbad.
