Carl Woodford is a folk influenced, singer songwriter and acoustic guitarist based in Sheffield, England. Having begun his musical journey fronting Scarborough based progressive rock band Magic Tree in 1999, Carl embarked on a solo acoustic venture upon their split in 2004 and began performin as a recognised solo artist in 2005.
Although drawing a large influence from the folk genre, Carl does not perform traditional folk songs or standards and his sets feature mainly original material. The influence of Carl's progressive musical beginnings can be heard throughout his songs which have an epic quality to them often breaking away from standard song formats.
Key influences in Carl's music include the likes of Roy Harper, Bert Jansch, John Martyn, Nick Drake, and John Renbourn. Favouring the British sound Carl sings with a distinctive, clean and bright tone that sets him apart from many singer song writers.
As a guitarist, Carl employs alternate tunings, a hybrid picking style and a use of the guitar as a percussive instrument to bring distinct flavours to his music.
Noteable support slots for Carl include Rory Mcleod, Vin Garbutt, Nick Harper, Michael Chapman, Martin Stephenson, Darden Smith, Jon Gomm and The Miserable Rich. Carl has appeared at many festivals and venues in and around Yorkshire and his debut release "Carry the Stone" continues to sell well.
