I have alot of influences from the 60's i was brought up on bands like the doors, led zeppelin, the rolling stones, hendrix and janis joplin, which meant i had a pretty good musical start to life.
I enjoy the work of female musicians like alanis morrissette, pj harvey, dolores o'riordan and eliza carthy for their unique styles of playing and voices.
There are alot of other bands that i love who maybe dont directly influence my music but make me the musician i am,i absoutely love Nirvana lyrically Cobain was very clever.I listen to alot of different bands and varying styles so my list could go on and on,and tends to change now and then as i find other bands or songs i like
Sounds Like
Well the Southern Counties judges found it hard to describe me i have a very unique voice, but i think this is what sets me apart from other singer/songwriters.Apparently i sound like Alanis Morissette a few people have said i do but im sure you can all make your own minds up.I write songs about things that influence me,affect me or just generally something that just evolves into a song.

My names Carly Rockett and i've been performing around Surrey over the last 2 or 3 years ,performing some gigs to just a small audience and some gigs to large happy-shiny crowds.I love music, everything about it i love really ,writing songs ,playing my songs ,listening to other peoples music, and going to gigs. I completed a 2 year Music National Diploma course at Brooklands College in Weybridge and its been invaluable to me.Ive been playing guitar for about 8 years now and ive found my own little way of playing, although my guitar playing is changing all the time as i find new inspiration.I have two guitars a tanglewood acoustic which i tend to write songs on.I also recently acquired a beautiful takamine jumbo electro-acoustic which is my favourite to perform with,i also have a fender mustang which i used alot more at college. I've been singing ever since i can remember and its something ive always enjoyed, over the last 6 months my voice has changed alot and ive found what i think is my voice (for the moment anyway) Ive been featured on Southern Counties radio station this year as part of their demo panel, although the judges found me quite difficult to place,i was included alongside a lily allen soundalike.Pop is something i am most definitely not! I also started my 'radio career' this year with a slot on Andy Vales Show on Surrey Universities station GU2,he'd only just heard my set and came up to me after and asked me to play on his show 2 days later. One of the highlights of this year as i had such a good time.I also played a small set for the wonderful Keith Woodhouse on Delta FM.Im always looking for new slots to play,so give me a shout if you know of a good one. Another stand out gig for me this year was performing at The Weyfest Music Festival in Tilford,i performed on The Rustic Acoustic Stage to a wonderful little audience,it was a beautiful gig. Right now I am writing new material and finding lots more venues to play at,i love nothing more than a good gig.So if you know of a venue or would like me to play a show for a party your having, drop me a message
I'd appreicate any comments you have about my music and if you want any more info just message me.
Nice set last night, shame about the sound (and the crowd!)! Will be in touch after Xmas as I'm trying to sort a Saturday afternoon launch gig for my album around late March if you fancy playing? Have a good Xmas!

Hey Carly, I'll very happily cover your M4M event! Can also help out with anything web/graphic/promo related. :)
I was worried for a minute cause the profile has 5th September which is the Weyfest weekend. But i see your profile here has 'sometime in September' so i'm guessing you have no set date yet, yeah?
Thanks for joining us last Thursday and helping to make it such a great night!
You're welcome any time, I'll get you booked in for another gig soon but in the mean time please do come and do an open mic slot any time, head down early cos they fill up pretty quick (as I'm sure you noticed last week!)
Yeah I emailed you about this but I think there's something funny going on with my email address, lots haven't been going through. Anyway yeah it's moved to The Star, on Church Street in Godalming town centre. We kick off about 8.30pm in the back room.. see you there! xx
