About me:
Greetings! My name is Carmella Cook, Master Herbalist at our newly opened Essential Elements Apothecary. I have been helping people help themselves with natural healing alternatives for more than a decade. I believe complete healing can only be attained by balancing the Whole of an individual - body, mind and spirit.
In addition to my Master Herbalist Certification through the Australasian College of Health Sciences, I have worked closely with a well renowned Herbalist in the community for the past 9 years. This has afforded me the chance to apply the clinical (book smart) knowledge with hands on experience. It didn't take me long to understand the necessity of treating each situation and person as an individual. Symptoms/ailments manifest for many different reasons; diet, lifestyle, emotional and psychological influences, genetics - the reasons are as varied as the individuals themselves. It is not only impossible, but irresponsible to lump everyone in the same category based on symptoms alone. Unfortunately, this seems to be the rule rather than the exception in allopathic medicine today.
Everyone finds this path in their own time, for their own reasons. I became interested in 'Alternative Therapies' when my mother was diagnosed with lung cancer. Having watched my father die painfully from this same disease several years earlier, I was not excited to see my mom travel this same road. As a very traditional woman, it was not easy to get her to try anything outside conventional medicine. Her comfort zone limited her to herbal experimentation only. We designed an herbal regimen and for a few months she was faithful in her administrations. At her next Dr.'s appointment they x-rayed her lungs and found the the tumors had shrank 25%. The Dr.'s couldn't understand it and would not attribute it to the effects of the herbs. Instead, they convinced her that in addition to 'whatever it is you're doing' she should start chemotherapy treatments. Unfortunately, her old belief systems took over and she did start chemo twice a week. These treatments incapacitated her to the point that she could not eat or drink - the herbal regimen fell by the wayside. At her next appointment they found the chemotherapy to be ineffective. Her tumors had in fact doubled in size and was spreading throughout her body. My mother succumbed to the cancer a few months later. It is thus, my path and purpose were defined.
EDUCATION, EDUCATION, EDUCATION! Question Everything! No matter how informed or knowledgeable a person seems it is always best to do some research of your own to compliment that knowledge. My goal is to help each person heal themselves, through education, and high quality products.
