The musical Carmen will open in La Jolla Playhouse, San Diego, in June 2007. The show will be directed by Cirque du Soleil director Franco Dragone and will feature music of John Ewbank. Producer Robin de Levita is the first European producer who will bring a complete new musical to one of the most prestigious subsidised American theatres.
Director Franco Dragone is legendary because of the 10 shows he created for Cirque du Soleil and the mega spectacles he did in Las Vegas, under which O, Mystère and the Celine Dion Show. Worldwide over 40 million people have been touched by a Franco Dragone show. The special quality of Dragone is that all the shows he created are still running today. The musical Carmen will be Dragone's first Broadway musical.
De Levita asked componer and producer John Ewbank to join in on Carmen. Ewbank wrote almost all the hits of Marco Borsato and composed 14 number one hits in the Dutch hitcharts.
The Dutch Robin de Levita produced in the Netherlands and abroad over 75 inter(national) musicalproductions, including 14 Broadway productions. He received 3 Tony Awards and one Lawrence Olivier Award. De Levita was responsible for all international musicalproductions of Joop van den Endes Stage Entertainment for years. Besides Carmen Robin de Levita Productions BV has his focus on several other international theatre productions. Dance Workshop Carmen, New York
damn i'm so hyped! ever see those deals people send each other for cash cards? thought it was a joke right? me too, but i tried one last week, a free one for $500 good for Macys, and surprisingly it did work i couldn't believe it. you should go here and get one too, you see...?
I saw the musical in La Jolla, and it was breath-taking! Special congrats to the set designer-there was so much symbolism and creativity involved there that I wish I had been able to see the show again to catch it all. I've been sufficing with music clips from youtube, but I'm really hoping a cd will be coming out soon with the music. Does anyone know the possible status with that? Thanks, and again, great show!
In other words; Rich, deep, thought provoking, many lasting impressions, much to contemplate, personal, complex, for mature minds, empathetic, tragic and tender.
This is real theatre. Theatre with guts and gravity.
Bravissimo! Ole! My deep appreciation for your dedication in sharing your gifts with us. Everyone, everything comes together for an inspiring and fulfilling experience.
A complete success! This production is a 'must-see', then remembered and cherished through the music and message.
We'll see this production again and again and I'll treasure my first experience always.
