Te sorprenderán muy gratamente!!!
For every ten bands carefully following prescribed trends, there's one that just wants to tear shit up. Consider this band’s moniker: Sure, names like METALUCIFER and even BIBLE OF THE DEVIL seem uncompromising on the surface, but putting the word “Fuck” right in your name kinda puts all the cards on the table, doesn’t it? This trio (Askorpin Bastard – Drums, Fuckin’ Gorilla – guitar/vox, Johnny Pain Is Dead- bass) isn’t looking to be the next American Idol darlings, that’s for sure.
As much as I love the trashy Diablo-bimbo vibe of the CD and the tight, grimy execution, it doesn’t take too many spins to figure out that FUCKLAND has two speeds: fast and faster. It’s the type of CD that you stick on, and before you know it you're already sitting through track 10. The drummer bashes away with a brutally simple approach, making a joke out of most tick ‘n kick-obsessed “metal god” drummers on the Candlelight and Nuclear Blast rosters with their bajillion-dollar kits. It’s ZEKE / DWARVES-style speedpunk with a quick wail here and there come guitar solo time (check out "Everybody Hates Me", for example). There’s no lacking in intensity, but like much of the Swedish D-beat stuff of the late 90s, there’s not a lot lingering song-wise once the smoke clears. Personally, I’d like to hear some chugging, mosh-friendly slowdown riffs to help accentuate the speeding lunacy that FUCKLAND delivers so well. This one lays a solid foundation, but I’m looking forward to more lights and darks next time.

Por un lado mis estimados The Bite desde Barcelona y en el otro los americanos Cute Lepers (banda formada por miembros de The Briefs). Un disco imprescindible para gente que aún nos pajeamos con las canciones de Undertones, The Jam o The Chords. Además en vinilo naranja!!!. Este split es la polla en vinagre!!!
A new reference of those from Seattle with two new songs this time shared with a Barcelona band called The Bite and succeed to release two new songs of Teh Cute Lepers with the very well known formula of Punk and Pop in the perfect doses and to give the opportunity to The Bite, a band of revival mod, punk, post-punk or as you may want to call it, to show everyone the freshness and quality of the two songs here released. The Bite aren’t discovering anything new, nor it is necessary, but it is good to emphasize the big composition and execution of some songs that could perfectly be taken as hymns of a generation lost in the final 70’s and starting 80’s. Their music is the one that cheers you up and that makes you sing the chorus like if they were from The Jam, Stiff Litte Fingers or Cock Sparrer (listen “In my Town”…) rounding off with a credible and effective live shows. These guys have magic and I blindly believe they are one of the better bands that this country have seen lately. Right now, my single of the year 2009.

Finally last week I got my hands on this release (big up Tofu!), actually it’s the first time I get a vinyl from a Portuguese band, and I tell you, after playing it both sides i felt like I’d been slapped in the face.It’s just raw, and that’s what I like about it. It really sounds angry, like the only thing they want is express their disgust for the world, without even caring for the music they’re making. And the the lyrics are so simple, so in-your-face, that you start thinking to yourself “I could write this shit. This is just what I feel sometimes!” And behind this apparent noisy pissed off attitude there’s really catchy guitar riffs that even get you grooving sometimes, and some clear notions of social criticism. This is one of those records I think will be hated on forever by the majority, but cheered by the ones who relate to it from the roots of their souls. I relate to it, no doubt bout that.
