Lead Guitarist / Vocalist Mathijs Ignoul started this band under the name of Experiment 666 in the summer of 2004. He had heard alot of music and thought he could do it too, so he recorded an instrumental cd of half an hour containing some 9 tracks. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After contacting bassist Greg Leinders the other members followed. Tom "Fons" Langie took on the job of Rhythm Guitarist, and Karel Sanen (longtime friend of both Greg and Tom) did drums. 2 small live performances followed, which had some success, but after that work stopped. Tom (who already insisted that the 666 in the name had to go) couldn't live up to the requirements of playing in this band and was also less attracted to the genre. Karel also had problems with the genre, which formed a problem because Mathijs hadn't even started to create something half as extreme as he had planned on doing.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thus it came to a turning point in the history of this band : Dimitri Bongers was recruited as new drummer, and Greg's cousin John Teuwissen would fulfill Rhythm duty's from now on. Mathijs also decided that the band should continue in a more religious course : He wanted to adopt the religion of the ancient peoples that once lived in Europe. Such vast changes had been made in music, attitude and line-up, that Mathijs could not longer continue under the name of Experiment. At this point, more than a year after the founding, the name of Carnyx was born. The Carnyx is the warhorn the Celts used to communicate aswell as frighten the enemy. This name refers to both the religious aspect of the band, aswell as Mathijs' love for his place of birth (Limburg).
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Line-up changes happened again after that. John left, and after we had found a replacement for him, Dimitri left to, and after a while long-time member Greg did too. Dimitri didn't really feel interested, and Greg couldn't find the time
anymore. This leaves Mathijs and Johan as the only 2 members left.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After many setbacks and because of Mathijs' current time-shortage (studies), Carnyx will not be preforming live for an undefined period of time. This means Johan will not work with Carnyx anymore.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mathijs is also active in Day Without the Sun : www.myspace.com/daywithoutthesun, Mathijs and Johan are both in Krijgsman : www.myspace.com/krijgsman
Thanks alot! yea i definitely spend alot of time adding subtle background instruments to fill out the sound and add to the atmosphere, glad you noticed some of those.
Hey no problem, its not for everybody lol. I gotta say man, awesome Bathory cover!!!!!!!! Great vocals and the guitarwork is incredible, really awesome atmosphere, cool to hear a little bit different version than the original, sort of Isengard-soudning in a way. Really enjoyed it. I actually did a cover of "A Fine Day to Die" not sure if you heard that or not. Great other songs too man, really love your style. I can see alot of Satyricon influence in there which is awesome. What do you use for drum programming?

Indeed, it sounded noble. and don't forget that Quorton sang a bit (a lot) false ;) which makes the magic of the great Bathory. and you sing right enough false for a Bathory tribute, ahah! well guys, this is an amazing cover song.
New album: “MORBIDE ELITE” - coming soon on Iron Age Records !
Since worldwide crisis with wars and famine are a true human pain, the drunk poor pest-brewing trolls got their good times. Since their pact with the crows their succes became giant. The drunk trolls are dead, the New Elite is born. We write in times where people are praying their God for forgiving their sins, to keep away His thorn of disease. Expect a mindblowing fast black metal masterpiece with a confronting sound of medieval infecting grief. The whole world is dying.
Thanks for the add and support! Our sophomore album, “Til alle heimsens endar”, which was recorded in Conclave Media (Taake, Helheim etc.) will be released by Dark Essence Records early 2010. Release dates, cover art and a new song will be revealed later this fall, so stay tuned!
