Fleshly and worldly appetites are powerful. The devil uses them as addictive tools. We love anything that satifies our selfish and sinful desires. The devil uses this to tempt us, then control and discourage us, and eventually defeat and destroy us. We long for power or money or clothes or sex, though we risk sacrificing friends, loved ones and even our walk with our Lord to satisfy our desires.
"Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh." (Galatians 5:16) "But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof." (Romans 13:14) "Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him." (1 John 2:15)
Put on the Lord and walk in the Spirit.
When in devious paths we stray,
Let Your goodness never fail us,
Lead us in Your perfect way.
May you walk with the Lord.

God brought Israel miraculously across the Red Sea. Then God led them into the desert. How unexpected to be led from from a place of revelation and power to a place of disappointment and need. Life is a combination of bitter and sweet, triumph and defeat.
The Israelites complained because the water was bitter at Marah. And the people murmured against Moses, saying, What shall we drink? Moses prayed. The LORD made the waters sweet and said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in His sight, and wilt give ear to His commandments, and keep all His statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee. (Exodus 15:23-26)
Every experience on their journey revealed their hearts. This test revealed they were not living by faith but by sight. God is involved in our daily affairs. God can not only part the sea but He can supply water for His people. God knows our needs because He planned our way.
Are you being led into a wilderness of disappointment and bitterness at this time? Trust God. He knows exactly where you are and what you need. Obey His commands. He will lead you out of the desert into a place of spiritual refreshment, healing and abundance.
For watered pastures never touched by pain;
But God will often let us sense our need
Before He sends His cool, refreshing rain.

We often treat God with a similar attitude. We are not only ungrateful for what He has already done and given us, but we want more. We feel God is obliged to give us material blessings, health and a good life. God does not owe us anything. Yet, He gives us everything.
This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it. (Psalm 118:24) Each day is one more gift from our God. We should gratefully respond by living to please Him.
Striving to please Him in all that I do;
Yielding allegiance, glad-hearted and free,
This is the pathway of blessing for me.
Life is a gift from God
to be lived for God.
May we gratefully live for God everyday.

In the novel No Blade of Grass, a virus attacks all the grasses of the world, including wheat, barley, rye, oats, and rice. The world is plunged into famine and violence. People kill for food.
God warns us a different kind of famine, "a famine ... of hearing the words of the LORD." A lack of food can lead to disease and death. A famine of the Word can produce eternal consequences. Without access to God's Word, we lack wisdom for life and the message of eternal life in Christ. As Christians, we need "the sincere milk of the word, that [we] may grow thereby." (1 Peter 2:2)
We can identify with the prophet when he said, "Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and Thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by Thy name, O LORD God of hosts." (Jeremiah 15:16)
To look in Thy Word each day;
Help me to hide its truths in my heart,
Lest from Thy path my feet would stray.
Without a heart for God, we cannot hear His Word.
God bless you.

There's a place I know, where I long to go, where I can lay my burdens down.
