"This music lives and breathes. Bean's voice just oozes with personality. One of Carol’s many axes is a 1954 Martin that Ry Cooder spotted for her and she had to audition to be allowed to buy it. 'It’s the same model Keith Richards plays, which makes me almost famous' laughs Bean. The blues permeate all the tracks and my overwhelming feeling was that a skilled, life-experienced songwriter was delivering superb songs backed by a great band. Bean has a strong voice and it’s obvious that everyone had fun making this music. This is a fabulous CD." Jeb Tyler, AUSTRALIAN HI-FI MAGAZINE
"Carol's voice is a cross between Stevie Nicks, Bonnie Raitt, Eliza Gilkyson with a touch of Jeff Lang! Sometimes she looks like James Taylor, with hair." George Theobald, Australian CT News
Born a Brit, Carol grew up in LA during the 60's and if you can get her to stop talking, she might tell you about it. Ry Cooder taught her how to Travis pick at McCabe's Music Store on Pico, and then she learned a handful of tasty chops from Dave Cohen at the legendary Ash Grove where Taj Mahal was always trying to borrow her car (to tell the truth it was her Mom's beige Impala) for 'a bit of a run around the block'. Every time he asked Carol said "Fuggedaboutit".
Along with playing solo, she was a feature artist at both the Auckland and the Wellington Folk Festivals in one year, Carol has fronted the Wellington band BLUE HIGHWAYS and her alt string-band MOUNT MISERY, which is the name of the hill she lives on in the "misty hills" of Wellington with her partner Lester.
Blue Highways especially enjoyed rocking out at the NZ Music Month Kapiti Marathon, the Wairarapa Blues Review and the Capital Blues club recently. That was their "last gig"- but god only knows.
Carol's smack dap in the middle of writing & recording a new album. She runs PRESS GO Productions and puts stuff on YouTube http://www.youtube.com/user/carolmbean For further information on her music, check Carol's Website. TO BUY "Read The Road Signs" GO TOCDBaby
Carol's music can also be bought on iTunes BLUES and WHOLEWHEAT RADIO
NEW ZEALAND MUSICIAN MAGAZINE "Carol Bean is amongst our fine women of rock. Carol is sassy and seductive rock 'n country blues at its best. She delivers songs with a passion that draws you in for more." (Liz Barry)
INDIE-CDs AUSTRALIA "Bean is an entertaining songwriter and performer and her work will satisfy the soul of blues fans and anyone who loves a good story keenly observed and well set to good music." (Julie Barnes)
