About me: I am an ardent decorated artist who paints, sculpts and offers tuition in the Arts and Crafts field to both children and adults. I am a proud member of the Lichfield Society Of Artists - an organisation whose executive committee have proposed that I take on the mantle of their very own Press Officer.I am also capable of writing reviews concerning Art and Culture. I have augmented my knowledge and intimate understanding of the latter during my career as a Museum Attendant at the majestic Dr. Johnson's Birthplace Museum http://www.lichfield.gov.uk/sjmuseum/ .
I undertook to run various Arts and Crafts workshops for young children in Lichfield during the summer as well as the October Half Term of 2007 - a wonderful initiative resulting from the collective vision of the hardworking and resourceful management and staff of the Dr. Johnson's Birthplace Museum in the Historic Cathedral City Centre http://www.lichfield.gov.uk/sjmuseum/pdf/event.pdf . That was undoubtedly a great honour for me and my sincere endeavours were tremendously rewarded as I gradually discovered that passing on my knowledge and skills to enthusiastic and impressionable young children was a humbling experience that solidified mutual self-actualisation. I shall be forever indebted to the Museum as well as these precious budding young artists for the sense of purpose that they re-ignited in that special corner of my soul that cultivates creativity to the core. I am delighted to reveal that the Arts and Crafts workshop programme returns for February Half-Term 2008 http://www.lichfield.gov.uk/sjmuseum/events.asp .
I am a seasoned assignment artist as well having worked on a variety of commissions for both private and business clients throughout my adult life. My work has been recognised by important organisations such as the Lichfield Society Of Artists. I received a Commendation from them for my painting entitled 'Best Friend' http://www.lichfieldsocietyofartists.co.uk/exhibitions.html and I recently received another award for one of my sketches.
I used to run a successful Arts and Crafts stall on a narrow boat which used to be my home and inspiration back in the eighties. I used to attract a versatile and exciting clientele when my boat was moored in the heart-warming surroundings of Bletchley where many American and Japanese tourists and business people took interest and purchased my work of inner love. I was asked to make a brief appearance on Regional Television at that time because of the interest that my Arts and Crafts generated from the very magic comfort of my beloved narrow boat.
Although I have expended an enviable deal of energy as a portraitist I am also capable of breathing life into as well as intensifying the heartbeat of a landscape painting to the point of immersing myself into the 'poignant pretty little life' my brushstrokes happen to create.
My ideas on children's crafts have allowed me to channel my creativity into an altogether different dimension. The constant need to improvise as youngsters tend to cascade the gears of the mind ever so tirelessly, so to speak, has rekindled my childhood's zeal that initially forced me to take up Art.
I am incredibly partial to the Japanese art of origami. The Summer of 2007 workshops became an overnight hit with the youth brigade as I somehow incorporated an origami theme into the programme that was meant to focus on Dr. Samuel Johnson. It is this type of lateral thinking on my part that I feel resonates well with those who I teach, be they young or not too young.
I have also accumulated a vast experience as a Heraldic Artist. The activities associated therewith have strengthened my resolve as an artist and they have been indisputably gratifying.
