Caroline Nin is a classic femme fatale, one that charms, intrigues and turns your imagination into a plethora of images, stories and memories through her mesmerizing personality, her captivating, rich voice and her own musical interpretations on a repertoire ranging from Piaf to Greco, Dietrich to Brel.
Caroline Nin born in Paris, made her debut in the late 80’s at ‘The Hollywood Savoy’, swing and jazz venue, where she quickly attracted the attention of its punters interpreting the songs of Ella, Holiday and Vaughan and many other jazz icons that inspired her at the time.
In the early 90’s Nin moved to London where she was asked by Marc Almond to perform at his thriving Soho venue ‘Freedom Theatre’ and where she sang classic cabaret standards (Brel, Kander, Ebb & Sondheim, Weill, Brecht) applying her own intellectual eroticism.
The French Institute then chose her to promote French culture around Britain through a series of tours during 1994-1996. It really was when Vidal Sassoon’s artistic director spotted her at ‘Freedom Theatre’ to accompany his worldwide hairdressing conventions for his featured musical and cabaret shows that she began to turn heads globally and where she first entered into an intimate relationship with Edith Piaf singing her own adaptation of “La Vie en Rose”.
Thanks to the response of this worldwide tour, which also included a stint at New York’s ‘Don’t Tell Mama’ on 43rd st, and her admiring British fans, Nin delved even further into the tragic and joyful world of Edith Piaf inspiring her to produce her show “If You Love Me: Hymn a Edith Piaf”. A smoky and jazzy, sensual and sensitive interpretation and not impersonation of Piaf’s works “Milord”, “Non, je ne regrette rien”, “La Foule” which has since its inception been seen as far as the ‘Sydney Opera House’, the ‘Kings Head Theatre in London, and the ‘Royal Festival Hall’…
At the 1998 Edinburgh Festival, Nin continued to seduce, entice and reel-in her audiences by winning the “Herald Angel Award” for her cabaret show “The Last Show” featuring Piaf, Dietrich, Minelli and Jacques Brel numbers.
In 1999 the Edinburgh Festival she weaved her red light district sly intrigue “Lush life” interpreting numbers in English, German and French (Kurt Weill, Bowie, Simone) and increased her ongoing reputation as the semi-mythical torch singer with a 5 star review written in the Scotsman newspaper.
Later in the same year Nin recorded her first album “Piaf”.
EMI offered Nin her first recording contract on her version of “Auld Lang Syne” usurped by Sir Cliff Richard’s version of the “Lord’s Prayer” at Christmas of 1999.
In 2001, Caroline moved back to Paris and has since been singing regularly at the ‘Lido’ on the Champs Elysées and at the ‘Sunside’ in Paris.
In 2002, Caroline set foot for the first time in Australia where her second album “Scarlet Stories” was recorded live at the Adelaide Cabaret Festival. Here Nin takes us back into the Berlin and Paris cabaret of the ladies of the night 30’s with her renditions of Irma La Douce, Liebertango, Amsterdam, Johnny and includes “The One and Only You” a song Marc Almond wrote for her.
She was again re-invited back to Adelaide in 2003 and last year in 2007 where additional shows registered sold-out at the Sydney Opera and where she sang “La Vie en Rose” and “Milord” live at the opening night of the film “LA VIE EN ROSE” interpreted by the Golden Globe and Bafta winner Marion Cotillard.
Back in France in 2005, Nin received the first prize at the Jazz Vocalists Festival of Crest which allowed her to peform as support band to Peter Cincotti.
Today, the Berlin era, the decadent 30’s resound in Nin’s repertoire. Her shows are like an invitation to a burlesque resurgence mixed with classical jazz – as Nin tells the stories of her songs, recounting jokes and anecdotes about the cabaret and jazz divas and how they influenced her. Nin brings to her audience a genuine sense of strength and sadness, humour and passion.

"At last a follow up to Janette Mason's sparkling debut as leader. Alien Left Hand ....was well worth the wait…” Production **** Performance**** -- BBC Music Magazine

"Every track from the rhythmic ‘NY Cab Ride’ and restless ‘4 Wheel Drive’ to the brooding ‘Mae’s Song’ has a terrific hook but it’s the way Mason switches tempo and moods that makes ALH great fun. " -- Diva Magazine
