Caroline Pond was born in Atlanta, Georgia. She has been playing violin, since the tender age of 7. Caroline played all through elementary school and highschool. She was a member of the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra for 2 years. She took a hiatus from her violining while attending The University of Georgia in Athens. "I just didn't think it was cool enough, I wanted to have fun and I needed a break from classical music", proclaims Caroline. ... At the age of 23, friends of hers introduced her to the sounds of bluegrass, jazz, swing, funk, etc. They asked her to come pickin with them. Very timid at the time, she decided to take that wooden box with the F holes right on out of her closet and try her hand at these peculiar musical styles. "I had no idea that a violin can do these styles", she announced. ... Caroline basically started her enthusiastic studies by pickin' with her friends, sight reading music books and listening to tons of cds. "It was hard for me to improvise at first, I was so used to following the dots on the page, but over the years it got easier and easier and I am still learning every day." ....
Caroline has been a performer for the last decade. She toured with Snake Oil Medicine Show through the United States, Europe and Jamaica. She has fine tuned her style in fiddlin' and her voice. When asked the difference between a fiddle and a violin, she replies "They are basically the same, but you can spill beer on a fiddle." ...
Other interests of Caroline Pond's are ukelele and dancing. She is a Zydeco, Contra and Salsa Dancer. "I feel like it goes with my musical training, it helps my rhythm out, so much." ...
She is a Yoga Instructor as well. Caroline received her certificate at the Sivananda Yoga Center in the Bahamas in March of 2004. It was there that she was writing a love song, "Bahamian Love", where she saw Woody Harrelson walk by. When she gets in the BIG Time she plans on asking Woody to star in the video. ....
Caroline Pond is a well-rounded individual who plans on spending the rest of her years on the planet earth sharing her gifts. ...
Om Shanti!!!
Just a thank you from lil ole me to the ever growing in popularity Ms. Pond for the time spent on and off the dance floor at that fabulous lil festival in NC - Shakori Hills. Had just a fantastic time even if we did not get to spend as much time together as we had planned. Hope to shake it with you in a public place again soon.
Thanks Caroline! I'll be safe as always, and you and Snake Oil Medicine Show shall be in my heart as I head west. You are much appreciated, and I'll make sure those folks out west pay you a visit online, and you be safe in your travels too! Cheers!
Happy Birthday! Your silence is deafening, sister. Isn't "No Reply at All" a Phil Collins tune? Anyway, no worries, hope all is well for you and your clan. A blessing you are, and blessed be! Still working on getting the show on the road, technical difficulties and all that. Doing the www webcast from GRP Studios in Altamonte Springs Monday night, and then the PanAmerica Blogride 2009 starts immediately after, Goddess willing, of course... peace, flapper lady. Keep on keeping on...
