Carolyn's partner in musical crime for 12 years. Genius multi-instrumentalist (guitar, bouzouki, mandolin, violin), excellent conversationalist, even if he is a little too fond of the limerick and the pun. His own instrumental disc, Plays Well With Others, is stellar, and he's increasingly in demand as a producer.
Well-known producer, engineer, player of anything with keys, strings, or hittable surfaces, purveryor of Picasso quotes. Roy's been a part of a gazillion records but still approaches each project with passion, focus and a plethora of Picasso quotes. His studio, Whitewater Productions, is Carolyn's favourite place on earth to record music. Did we mention the Picasso quotes?
Once upon a time Adrian toured with Carolyn. Then Carolyn had a baby and took a maternity leave, so Adrian joined All Star United, moved on to various other killer projects, and became the rockstar bassist he is today. But he's still all over Carolyn's records, espcially the new one, Pollyanna's Attic, and if you're really, really lucky you might catch him on the odd live date with Carolyn and Spencer.
Phil is a Vancouver heavy-hitter (literally) who stunned and amazed with his grooves on the new project. Plus, he taught us how to identify drum fills as "Pat Boone Debbie Boones" and "Bette Middler Bette Middlers".
And while Pollyanna's Attic is chock full of Arends' originals, it also includes tunes from Pierce Pettis and Mark Heard, as well as collaborations with Connie Harrington, Dwight Liles, The Clumsy Lovers' Chris Jonat, and the aforementioned Capier.
Influences
Beatles, Bach, James Taylor, Rich Mullins, Mark Heard, Pierce Pettis, Shawn Colvin, David Wilcox, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Sheryl Crow, Crowded House, Kim Hill's "Braveheart", Amy Grant's "Lead Me On", Randy Stonehill, Larry Norman, Ben Harper, Sam Phillips, Allison Krauss, Lyle Lovett, Elvis Costello, Steve Bell, Bob Bennett, Billy Crockett, Sarah Masen, later-era Bruce Cockburn (I know, sacrilege to the early-era fans), Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, Jack Johnson, CS Lewis, Madeleine L'Engle, Thomas Merton, Frederick Buechner, Malcom Muggeridge, Mark Buchanan, Anne Lamott, Brian McLaren and a whole bunch more ...

About Carolyn
"One of the most affecting communicators in any genre."
- Billboard Magazine
Carolyn Arends has released 9 albums and is the author of 2 critically-acclaimed books. 15 of Arends' songs have become top 10 radio singles on the Canadian pop and US Christian charts. Arends has earned 2 Dove Awards, 2 Juno Nominations, and was recognized as the West Coast Music Awards' Songwriter of the Year. Arends' newest project, Pollyanna's Attic, is already being heralded as her most honest and beautiful work.
Accolades aside, Arends is known for songs and books that stir the soul, and a warm, engaging style that leave her audiences feeling like they've found a new best friend.
"I dont write songs and books as much as I get ambushed by them," Arends confesses. "And I write primarily about God because he is what captivates my imagination. The idea that we can know the Creator of the Universe, and that he knows us ... I simply can't think of any more fascinating subject matter."
Arends graduated from Trinity Western University in Langley, BC with a degree in psychology and English. She lives in Surrey, BC with her husband Mark, eight-year-old son Ben, and four-year-old daughter Bethany.
