With the vocal fire of Patti Griffin and the lyrical rawness of Rickie Lee Jones, Carrie
Elkin's songs are, at once, intimate yet universal, naked yet richly adorned. "Her
voice is simply revelatory" says the venerable English music rag, Folkwax. "Elkin
presents herself as one of the most accomplished of America's new songwriting
breed." Rock-n-Reel Magazine, UK.
A troubadour in the most classic fashion, Elkin has ridden a gypsy breeze of
serendipity for the last ten years, landing for a time in Cleveland, Athens, Taos,
Steamboat Springs, Colorado Springs and Boston, finally coming to settle in Austin,
TX in the summer of 2007. Carrie was recently chosen as a Falcon Ridge Folk
Festival Emerging Artist as well as a finalist for the prestigious NPR show, Mountain
Stage.
Reviewers say:
"I have never seen a performer so in love with the act of singing. That's the gospel truth, and from what I've subsequently learned I'm not the only one to believe or state that. Onstage Elkin was simply a force of nature, offstage her eyes retain an impish 24/7 twinkle. So twinkle, twinkle..."
Arthur Wood, Folkwax July 2008
"Carrie Elkin’s fourth release resounds with a sense of warm, earthy poetry that combines a strong folk/soul framework, her own sweet-toned but characterful vocals and quietly offbeat writing that never seems wilfully eccentric."
Maverick Magazine - UK
“What a wonderful album this is. I’m thinking Patti Griffin, Nanci Griffith and Iris DeMent. It’s spellbinding, from the opening track to ‘Gospel Song’ at the end, this is a real treat! ‘Questions about Angels’ made the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end.”
BBC Radio
“This album is an absolute treasure trove of riches. And her voice is fantastically expressive, with an actor's facility for making the lyric come alive."

Whisperin & Hollerin UK

Hey Carrie. Looks like you sure have a busy schedule. Do you ever come home this way to see the folks? I don't even know if Ricky is still in the area. I saw them not too long ago with his wife. Got your Dads number too. Just haven't had a chance to call. Did You hear about Aunt Esther? I thought Pat was bringing her here for burial but that was october of last year. Not sure what ever happened. Sad when you don't know anything about your own family. Sing a song for her. I'm sure she is listening. Remember all the old times we had over there. Love ya, Me
