Story-singing songwriter Carson Metzger writes songs about his interests: regretful mapmakers, the misunderstood joys of artificial insemination, soldiers dying in the arms of lovers. In a market saturated by random lyrics and the same old love songs, Metzger crafts intelligent stories of characters struggling with love, faith, violence, and happiness. Where he takes lyrical cues from Graceland-era Paul Simon and Randy Newman, his songs owe equally as much to the edgy sentiment and dramatic theatrics of Pink Floyd's Roger Waters. He has been observed seeking lyrical influence in nursery rhymes, funeral homes, embarrassed assholes, and the lilting of an intimate’s cheekbones.
A finalist in the 2008 Albuquerque Songwriter's Contest, Metzger's music and live performances have been characterized by fans as "dynamic." As a solo acoustic-electric performer, his animated delivery includes his signature facial expressions and inspired guitar playing. Veering from quiet whispers into frenzied screams, Metzger varies his low growling with a vulnerable falsetto. He tailors the volume and intensity of his acoustic guitar playing to suit the crescendo of the stories he tells. He can fill a large room or play quiet songs in small spaces.

Metzger purposefully stylizes his vocal delivery: he rounds off the ends of words to accent rhymes while stretching vowels to underscore rhythm. He provides free lyric books at his performances to allow audiences the option of reading along as he sings from a body of thirty-five original songs.
His second album, Carson Metzger presents: A Nova Anatomia or The Small Problem of Gods and Bodies, is available at http://cdbaby.com/cd/carsonmetzger.
His music is currently being played on NMRadio.

I am sticking around for the summer. I didn't want to ask for a bunch of time off so soon after getting a job, and I think it's good that I'm spending a lot of time at work and getting used to the routine and letting the kids get used to me.
I'm glad you're making progress on your dissertation. I can't even imagine how much work that must be. It was nice talking with you tonight. I'm glad you and Rachel still come to open mic even when you don't perform. It's nice to see you guys.
Thank you! I did enjoy it, the whole show! I was actually thinking about that request while you were performing, wondering if it was really the first time I've seen you play since then. I think it was. It's awesome you remembered! I felt bad for not staying and talking to anyone after, but I was in a weird funk and just wanted some space. The music did help though. My favorite part of the night was, "Well, the elves need something to do while the cookies are baking." It's the cutest image in the world. P.S. Alex really wanted to come but he was stuck at Lobo orientation. :(

I'm glad to hear you're doing well. What is your dissertation on? I'm excited to be graduating next month. My brother is getting married two weeks after that. I'll be doing an internship at Disney World from August to January. So I have lots of exciting stuff coming up.
I'm doing well. I'm glad you like the house. I'm really glad Steven's living here. He and Maria have made the house look so much nicer. And it's nice being able to see them more often. I'm glad you're still coming, even if you're not playing. See you tomorrow.
Hey Carson, I hope you and Rachel are able to make it to open mic tomorrow. I miss hearing you guys play! But I know it's a busy time of year for everyone... Hope you're doing well!
