Jeffrey Carter Albrecht, born on 06- 23-1973, died on September 3, 2007. Known to all as Carter, the graduate of Southern Methodist University looked and sounded, but never acted, like a star. Singing and playing guitar and piano in a number of bands, including Sparrows, Sorta, and Edie Brickell and New Bohemiams, Carter was as close to a virtuoso as one might find toiling in bars and nightclubs rather than an orchestra pit. Based on that boundless talent, he was named Musician of the Year and Best Songwriter by the Dallas Observer in 2003. Yet he always carried himself with the humility and enthusiasm of someone who was just getting his start. In fact, his personality and character far surpassed his skills as a musician; Carter would have stood out from any crowd he chose had he never touched a piano key. He was a genuine fan of music and life in general, especially of the many instances when the two could be combined. Because of the joy he found while on this earth, and the joy he brought to others in the process, he will always be with us, though we truly and deeply miss him. Carter is survived by his parents, Kenneth and Judith, and a few dozen of the best songs that ever came out of Dallas.

Carter's solo album, "Jesus Is Alive... And Living In London" is almost completed and will be out as soon as possible.
"His heros were his parents, family, loved ones, friends, and musicians... and more importantly, people who followed their passion and were "real." -ryann

In memory of Carter Albrecht's Friend Space (Top 20)
just saw a picture that hal samples posted that sent my pendulum swinging in the dark direction. quite simply, it is revolting to me that we live in our abundance and do as little as we can to help those who are in a state of devastation. as a society we find ways to waste money setting up foundations and beuracracies to do the work we as individuals don't have the time or heart to do. sam kennison used to joke about the organizations filming the starving kids and ask the question, "why don't they just give them a sandwich?" well, why not? don't get me wrong, i know good and well the good some of the organizations and foundations do. that's not the real jumping off point to me. what i mean is, we can't leave it at that. we have so much hunger and homelessness in our own back yard and on our own streets. and we walk right by and sometimes over it, hoping and praying they don't ask us for anything.
well today and all weekend i challenge you to join me in a miss a meal campaign. give up one meal a day on saturday and sunday and go deliver a meal to someone who can't provide it for themselves. find them. it isn't that hard. don't leave it up to someone else to do. the small hunger you feel by your sacrifice will help you remember why you are doing it. hunger sucks.
i suggest you go with a friend. try to speak to the person you choose to help, if they are willing or able. most people at this point begin to get uncomfortable. good. get outside your comfort zone. it is getting to the point that humans are so disconnected that if a dog was in the street, it is more likely to get help than a human. i am not suggesting that dogs aren't woth it. i think you understand me.
so pick a meal to miss and encourage a friend or neighbor to do the same. share this note with every friend you have by posting it on your profile, reposting the bulletin, and emailing it to your address book.
The Album is absolutely amazing. Thank you so much to everyone who saw this project through to completion. I'm sure that it was a gut-wrenching experience and listening to it is more than bittersweet, but well worth it. This one will be on repeat for a while.

Just want to make sure that everyone who visits this site knows that there was a postmortem solo album released with some of the songs Carter was working on. You can search for it on iTunes or you can listen to it here:
I was listening to the Slick 57 record and remembered when you laid down the piano tracks and broke a nail. Afterwards we went to the "yote" and you told me "your fingers can only do what your heart tells them". I think about that alot, and wanted you to know that. --rob
my son played your tambourine tonight while i played "1978" - you would've gotten a kick out of it - i will never forget you - i can't stop missing you. love - S
I was telling a very funny Christmas story of you tonight. Also just went and saw Danz and the "Bucks", totally awesome. You would love it! Chad is like a strip club DJ and Danz is uber country! (but still totally hot, great vocals too!) Miss you tooooo much, and always on my mind! Merry Christmas Crames! xoxo, nickers.
